The exterior case looks rusty and filled with corrosion. I think the actual piece costs $800; but how much time does it take to replace?

I have just taken my VW Polo to the garage because newly fitted brakes were squeaking. They were fitted with Mark4 Golf brake discs and pads. Turns out that the cause of the squeaking was down to all 4 of my 3 week old pads were cracked. I have had new pads fitted now, but can anyone tell me what could have caused this? I thought its a bit too coincidental that all 4 have reacted in the same way...

Ive always used Fram oil filters in my car, was just wondering if the pricier K&N Oil filter would make any difference? Would I get better gas mileage? Is my engine safer?

Guys & gals, thanks for your input, an update on my progress. Might stay with OEM engine, my engine does not leak coolant or oil. May be the electric fan relay or fan motor is out. Don't know which yet. The vibration from under caridge/driveline, think it's center bearing, I'm replacing it, first. For front-end, I'm looking at replacing lower control -arm bushings, tie-rods ends, & may be struts. The problem is encountering pot holes & having no control afterwards. Put on new wires, car runs better, RPM dropped some. Must look at senors or get an OHM meter to help check.

i have an 89 nissan 240sx i am changing the pads in the back. i went out and bought a c clap to push the caliper back in, i was told by many people this would work, ok i can turn the caliper counter clockwise and it comes out quick and easy. and then i can easily push it back in with the c clamp, but once it gets to where it was when i took the brakes apart, it just stops, i had the c clamp looking like it was gonna snap, and it wont go back in, i have tried turning it, letting the valve open, everything, any ideas?

I changed the oil and did not tighten the oil filter good. I added 3.8 quarts per manual - I have changed the oil several times before with no problems. Did not realize it was leaking until oil light started coming on. I lost a good amount of oil. I have added 2 quarts and the level barely shows on sides of the dipstick? Do I need to add more, should the oil be a film all the way across the dipstick, near the top dot?

The check engine light in my Mazda6 came on yesteday. The coolant level was low so I added coolant, but the light is still on? Does the light need to be reset or will it go off automatically? Or is there another problem?

I own a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire sedan with a 4 speed automatic transmission and a 2.2L engine. The warranty was the standard 5 years or 100,000 kilometers when I purchased it brand new. I have always had regular maintainence preformed on this vehicle. With the exception of the gas cap occasionally causing it, I have never had the check engine light appear. At precisely 99,000 kilometers the check engine light appeared and will not go out. Pure coincidence?? Or has GM cleverly created a way to get people with soon-to-be-expired warranties on their vehicles to bring them in, so they can pitch the extended warranty and make an easy $1,000+??

I have a '02 Chevy Silverado, it's been a work truck for a while, getting up there in mileage, and I want to make it my play truck.

I've been doing some research on different rims & tires on the internet, and can't seem to find any great deal. Even eBay isn't too great for what I'm looking for. I want those rims that are mostly black, with a little sliver of chrome here and there.

I seen them on someone's truck in Walmart parking lot once, I remember their called Motor-Metal or similar? I can't find em! It's bugging me to death.

Does anyone know what they are, or a good site to buy them or others? Thanks!

To be more specific... After doing the bypass, (connecting the two tubes that connect to the firewall together), I began to refill the coolant reservoir and noticed when I was refilling that one of the valves on the firewall started to drip (release water/coolant) My question is, why is it doing that? Did I do something wrong?

A friend bypassed the fan switch so the fan is on all the time and it did not overheat when I took it for a short run. The car is a SAAB 9000 turbo, 12 years old with 130000 miles on the clock.
