If the question you are asking is, which is it better to learn with? an automatic or a manual? Then, the answer is the automatic. The reason being, that if you take your drivers test with a manual, and have to stop on any grade, unless you are a seasoned pro, the chance of your car slipping back a bit before the clutch engages is pretty high. If your car rolls back, even a bit, then you would fail the road test. Better to do it with an automatic, where that is not a problem. After you get your license, then play with a manual transmission. The best place to practice regardless of what type of transmission, is a big empty parking lot, where you can learn the basics of the car, how is handles, how temper mental it is, and so on. Once you learn that, then go out onto the streets where traffic is limited. Progress to more heavily traveled areas, as your experience increases.

Learn in a manual, then you can drive an automatic.
Learn in an automatic, you can only drive an automatic.
My suggestion take some serious driving lessons and learn in a place where there is plenty of traffic, that way perhaps you will be a better driver when you pass your test.
Do not know where you live or your age but bank on one lesson for each year of your age.In my opinion (only mine) London is the best place.

I would definitely learn on a standard. Then you never stuck for transportation. Later in life you may want to operate/rent a heavy truck. With the basics you learn quickly.
