Maintenance & Repairs - February 2007

My driver side door is stuck shut, wont open with key or from inside. Passenger side handle is broken on outside, and driver side lock on inside is missing. Can't lock the car, and i have to climb in from the back door to get in. Where the heck can i get this fixed, and does anyone know if it is expensive.

I've been having troubles with a small 96' toyota tacoma 2wd "baby truck". I had the original muffler replaced which was rather quiet removed, and these guys put a Bosal muffler on it and it howled and was very loud at certain speeds right out of their shop . 2nd try same thing ... They are trying to get me to beleive that somehoe the catalytic converter is probably bad even tho it sounded fine up until the instant they messed with the car. What are the odds of their story being true?,.... That it's not a loud muffler, but really a bad catalyitic converter. I have had friends run cars without converters and they sounded ok . You think this is a plausible excuse / reason? or do you think if i went with an OEM muffler it would fix this? Thanks

The problem is that I have 16 inch rims i bought from someone, but instead of low pro tires they used reg size and it scrapes my car if i make asharp turn. With the lack of funding i figure i buy the first set now and second set next check.

Long story short is it bad if I have bigger size tires on the back than the front.... I dont want to spin out or anything...

My 2000 Chev. S-10 keeps blowing out its drivers side headlight.

The frames around the windows and the front grill of my car are black plastic or metal (not chrome or silver). I have tried to use protectant to prevent fading of the black, but over time it has still faded. Is there any way to restore the color to make it look new again? Some product that restains it or something?

From what I understand, Chevron adds Techron to its Premium Gasoline. Do they also add it to their mid-grade and regular-grade gasoline?

When I brake my oil pressure light flickers but when the car is accelerating it goes off, could I need a new oil pump or enginge flush? The car was sitting in frigid temps, until recently. And there is oil in the car.

Ok i have changed the fan on the motor I have changed the thermostat.I had the motor on the fan tested to make sure it is getting power and it is.From start to finish please give me all other options that I can check so that the fan will come on to keep my vehicle from overheating.Please And Alwys thanks for the feedback.

About 5 months ago my stepdad wrecked my moms car, it was hit in the driverside front at an angle... so i had to replace the radiator and the airsystem.. well i replaced all that stuff got a new battery installed it all correctly but when i tried to turn it over it still wont crank over... it just makes a clicking noise.. what do i do? is there a fuel switch i gotta turn on since it probably got turned off cuz the wreck? if so wheres it located? lol sorry for all the questions

i have a 93 300zx NA. the throttle body coolant hose has a leak, and the engine constantly overheats due to water escaping through this hose. i took it to two different repair shops (dealer and independent) and was quoted the same price to repair it-$1650. i realize that its not the part that costs so much, its the labor. are there any shops in the southern CA area (i live in long beach) that can repair this for a significantly lower cost? or is this the average quote for performing this job?

At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I managed to blow my stock d15, threw a rod right through the block. Now I'm replacing it with a d16 pulled from a wrecked Accord or something, the point is when the guy pulled the engine he just used a cutting torch to get rid of everything so the distributor got messed up as well as the timing chain/belt/whatever cover. I've already swapped out the timing cover, and I'll have to swap out the distributor from the old engine as well. I'm just wondering how you would go about timing it? I'm familiar with timing on small block chevy engines, so any similarities you can point out would be greatly appreciated.

Early this week i had noticed my steering was very hard,then my my coolant light came on so i looked in my coolant tank and it was empty.I put a whole gallon of coolant in it and the next morning it was gone.I popped the hood and i see coolant leaking from the bottom of the car.Can anyone tell me what happened and what this problem is and how much it would be to fix??

The noise is like whistling and squealing but it only comes when i switch on lights and heating on. During day time is fine but night time it start coming cuz i use headlights, heating, rear window heating to clear mist. Sound stays for few minutues only but if i switch off rear heating or lights then it stop whistling staright away.. help me out plz

i was driving on the freeway and when i came off when i pushed on the gas it made this grinding sound like something was under m foot. it happened twice and wouldnt go padt like 25..then i noticed the reverse wont work. took it to shop and he said its the transmission and its like 1600..most likely its my tansmission where i have to have it replaced? if so any advice where i can go for cheaper..i dont have much money due to the fact im a college student..also do i pay to fix it or just fin a new car..the thermostat was just replaced 2 weeks ago..my check engine light wont go off and my smogs up..but it has a new catalytic converter..it has 147000 miles..decent shape..what do i do?
