It's an OHV. The camshaft is quite low in the engine and it uses push rods and rockers to move the valves. As engines go this is one of the easiest heads to remove. I used to be able to get them off in 15mins with air tools.

If your engine is all cast iron it will be the ford ohv push rod engine which is known as the HCS engine it has very good quality valve seats in it, made from sintered bronze or a similar material, and runs happily on unleaded fuel, make sure the head is not cracked, and the valves are seating properly, have the head GROUND not machined on a mill, prior to refitting with New valve stem oil seals, and a good quality head gasket such as Payon Adusa, Elring, Victor Rinz, not FIA, First Line or BCD at the same time you would be advised to have the timing chain changed, as they always rattle and this effects the performance, plus they are not dear ,don't forget to replace the oil seal and T/Cover Gasket.

The Endura 1.3 is definitely overhead valve (OHV). You've been very unlucky to blow a head gasket on one of these. That's very rare.

The Endura 1.3 has ancestry in the original Kent Crossflow engine, the later Valencia 1.3 and latterly the HCS 1.3, now reincarnated as the Endura 1.3. A bloody fine engine that will do 150,000 miles easily with regular oil and filter changes.
