I'm borrowing a Jetta. I tilted the small compartment in between the front two seats (above the hand brake) upright....not knowing that it doesn't come down easily. Did I break it? Can someone please tell me how to bring it back to its original position? Thanks! Help please!

Also, while I am driving, the RPM's will go up for about a second and then go back to normal. When this happens, the temp. coolant gauge on the odometer will rise and fall. Is this electrical? I have never had this happen to me, any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I live in Chicago (where today's high is negative 3) Anyway, my husband drives a Range Rover. This morning when I told him to warm up his car, he actually laughed at me and said he didn't need to. He "claimed" the car's owner manual said warming it up is actually bad for the car. Because the car is so complex, it actually does more harm them good when you warm it up. Coming from a family of machanics, this is the most asinine thing I've ever heard. Can anyone out there back his claim or support my side? Thank you!!

I wrote earlier about my explorer, that I had repaired 3 months ago, I had tensioners, and timing chain put on. Repair shop towed truck, same one that "fixed" it last time, and they now say that it needs a motor! They said at the catalyc (sp) convertor was bad, and all clogged up. I told them 3 months ago that 2 other places said I need a motor, they said no they could fix it. They charged me 1700.00 last time to fix this, and it lasted only 3 months. I told the repair guy I had no prior knowledge it needed a convertor, he said I wouldn't have any prior knowledge. Does any of this make any sense? By the way the guy was very rude almost yelling at me, that it wasn't his fault that I drove the truck. Why wouldn't I drive it if he said it was okay? Should I report this to someone? Who do I report this to? Thanks again for your help.

What can be causing this to happen? I live in Pennsylvania where the temp the last 2 days has been -5 and that's without windchill. Could it be that the antifreeze is freezing and not getting down into the right place? After I tap the lid, I hear a gurrgling sound like it's running down and then the thermostat goes back down. We just had the whole system flushed and the thermometer replaced because we had no heat. Do I need to take it back to where we got it repaired in the first place?

What can I do other than waiting until it becomes warmer??? It is supposed to be this cold for another week or so and I have to go to work. Please Help!

I have a 1983 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup. I replaced the 700R4 with a Turbo 400 about 6 years ago, now the 400 is getting weak. Now I have the oportunity to put a 4 speed or maybe even a late model 5 speed manual tranny in it. This truck isn't a daily driver, just my stress reliever. What would be involved in making the swap from auto to manual, and what model year transmissions would work best?

Ok here is the deal, I my car is a 1984 BMW 528e. The car will turn off while in drive at any speed or when coming to a stop or upon take off. This is the maintenance the vehicle has recieved to this point. new fuel filter and pump, new spark plugs. The coil is working well and I just do not have a clue what the hell is wrong with it. I can only assume that it (the problem) has to be an electrical one since the fuel system has been eliminated. Does anyone have an idea of what or where I need to check. Thanks
