Cold weather does not make a good car battery go dead, it may, however, finish off a battery which was marginal before the cold weather. Cold weather strains the battery for two reasons: One, the cold markedly slows the chemical reaction within the battery which develops electrical power. Two, the cold engine - the oil in particular - has more friction to overcome than is present in warm weather. If the battery is charged properly, the water/acid mixture will not freeze.

10 minutes idling isn't a solid theory. only commencing the motor vehicle might desire to apply extra potential than is replenished by a jiffy of idling. the final element to do is to maintain the battery on a trickle charger in case you have get entry to to an outlet. If not that then only positioned it on a charger approximately as quickly as a month and totally value the battery if the motor vehicle is going unused for that long. extra often than as quickly as a month won't harm something. A motor vehicle battery self discharges at a cost between 2% and 10% each week. Batteries self discharge speedier in a heat temperature, extra slowly while chilly. it is probably the justifications human beings specifically circumstances save an unused battery in a refrigerator, specially the smaller transportable device form batteries. The extra discharged it is the extra probable it is going to likely be broken.

It won't. Cold will make a battery less efficient, but not make it go dead.

Battery Capacity
Battery capacity refers to the total amount of energy stored within a battery. Rated capacity is in Ampere-hours (AH), which is the product of the current times the number of hours to total discharge. The capacity is normally compared with a time of 20 hours and a temperature of 68F (20C). There are five factors that dictate the capacity of a given battery:

Size The volume and plate area of a battery increases with capacity
Temperature As a battery gets colder, its capacity decreases.
Cut off voltage To prevent damage, the cut-off voltage should be limited to 1.67V or 10V for a 12 Volt battery.
Discharge rate This is the rate of discharge, measured in amperes. As the rate goes up, the capacity goes down.
History Deep discharging, excessive cycling, age, over charging, under charging, all reduce capacity.

You have to keep in mind, that everything slows down whin it gets cold. Just like ice. The molecules in water are slowed down to a stop, which in turn makes ice. The molecules in the battery are slowed down in the battery, which makes it unresponsive in the cold. An older battery will slow down the most. Although newer batteries are slowed down also. Its just that the older battery is like an old person, no offense, everything is slowed down. Get your battery cheked out, and this should solve your problem.
