I just had a catalytic converter put on my car. When i first test drove it it started bucking and continued to blow smoke.I turned around, took it back and we test drove it with my mechanic. It drove fine.He said there was probably stuff still being blown out.As i drove it that day, it got better and better. The rpms dropped twice and it cut off as i was stopping and it went through periods of driving great, then dragging, driving great, then dragging- but it was getting better.
The muffler shop told me id need to set the timing and get the idle adjusted.
Well I let it sit for about 5 days and when I went to drive it to the shop to have it adjusted, I am back to square one.It is bucking and cutting off everytime i come to a stop.It is also chugging, it doesnt sound smooth like it did.
When I got it to the shop my mechanic said to take it and put it on a diagnostic machine because its getting too rich of gas and will clog up the cc all over again. What on earth could make it do that?

i have a 98 taurus and today i discovered a coolant leak coming from a hose/pipe that runs from the water pump to the firewall (heater core?). I also noticed a bit more smoke coming from the tail pipe than usual. i don't want to just repair the coolant leak if there is a greater problem. how can i tell if i have a blown head gasket?

I am interested in buying this 1994 Iszus Rodeo LS from a Private Seller for $1,500 willing to take $1200 for it as is. She said that there was two things that needed repair, 1- carrier bearings need to be replaced/repaired 2- the axel bearing needs to be completely replaced for sure.

How much would it cost to have these things done at a fair price, including cost of labor?. She told me she would pay to have it fixed if it wasnt too much and then add the cost of the repairs to the total selling price. What am I looking at here....a deal or no deal kinda thing?

Help, I really need a car....oh and its got 95,000 miles on it, new brakes, new tires, and new MP3 player. Blue book says its really worth about $3500 once the problems were fixed.....please help....

Ok, I have a 2001 Benz C240. I was just driving home from work this evening & all of a sudden I heard a loud pop! And I mean LOUD! Then the light popped up & said battery/alternator malfunction. I kept driving & while I was waiting at a light, it made a pop again like my engine fell to the ground. Well, I got over in the next lane & I was trying to pull over into a parking lot & I could barely turn the steering wheel! I had to litterally put all my weight into getting it to turn! I finally pulled over & cut the car off. And my lights cut off & won't come back on & my seat won't move either! GEEZ!
What should I do? I got one of those "warranties" you can purchase with the car but I am sure it is b.s. The boolet shows how it covers a mutitude of things like everything I described here. I will be calling them tonight. If they won't fix it, I would trade it in but I would be upside down by $10K! Dumb...I know! What should I do!!

Got a 2000 Dodge Ram Sport ext cab. Truck has a body lift with rims and tires I put on it and 86,000 miles automatic. The air conditioner went out and the tranny is starting to slip. I can trade it for a 2003 Chevy s10 4x4 ZR5 with 30,000 miles v6. Not sure if I want to give up my ride but tired of the gas sucking and don't want to start sinking money in it to fix things that start breaking. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Should I keep it or let go.

It was not in an accident, the latch mechanism just broke. We were told we had to buy a whole new door and that just isn't an option. Anyone know how to get in there and replace the latch? I appreciate any input. Thanks.

1992 Chevrolet Van. 5.7L V8 (Throttle Body Injection)
New fuel pump, new filter screen, new fuel fliter.
Rebuilt fuel regulator (Replaced diaphram).
New plugs, new wires, new distributor cap and rotor.
New coil wire, using original coil.
Checked EGR valve. Seems OK.
Vaccuum appears fine (Replaced bad looking hoses, but they were not leaking.)
MAPP appears to be working OK.
Bad MAF sensor would make engine light go on, right?
*Is there a relay for the fuel pump?
*Check engine light doesn't come on when engine is running.
So maybe Idle air control valve or throttle position control is bad?
*Injectors seem to stop at same time, so engine stops getting gas.
Other notes:
Engine is hard to start. Dies infrequently. (Dies after a few seconds - 5+ minutes) Pumping the gas rapidly while starting helps get get engine going. Drove it on highway and works great.

I just bought this vehicle a few weeks ago and noticed that when coming to a normal stop the break pedal woud go about half way down before the van would start to stop.but in a situation where a quick stop had to be made the pedal would be firm untill the van was about stoped then the pedal would sink down to half way.I changed the pads on it today and now the pedal goes to the floor and will not get firm.I have tried to bleed the breaks but cant get any pressure.seems to be no leaks.fluid is full.I did notice when bleeding that the fluid would only dribble out.
