I just had a catalytic converter put on my car. When i first test drove it it started bucking and continued to blow smoke.I turned around, took it back and we test drove it with my mechanic. It drove fine.He said there was probably stuff still being blown out.As i drove it that day, it got better and better. The rpms dropped twice and it cut off as i was stopping and it went through periods of driving great, then dragging, driving great, then dragging- but it was getting better.
The muffler shop told me id need to set the timing and get the idle adjusted.
Well I let it sit for about 5 days and when I went to drive it to the shop to have it adjusted, I am back to square one.It is bucking and cutting off everytime i come to a stop.It is also chugging, it doesnt sound smooth like it did.
When I got it to the shop my mechanic said to take it and put it on a diagnostic machine because its getting too rich of gas and will clog up the cc all over again. What on earth could make it do that?

there could be quite a few things causing the problem. it's definitely running extremely rich which will destroy you cat. converter. there are a few different sensors that the computer uses to control fuel delivery, if they send the wrong reading it could make it run rich. the best way to solve it would be to use a scan tool to connect to the computers data stream and see where all the sensors are when it's acting up.

I would have to agree with the mechanic you talked to. Have him check for trouble codes and the other emission parts. And it may need a tune up due to the cat being plugged and replaced.

Where all you "mechanics" at. Doesn't any body do diagnostics ?? RUST IN THE FUEL FILTER. what does that say ?? WATER in the gas tank. You need to drain your gas tank and remove the water.

The problem that ruined the first converter most likely still exists and has to be remedied before the second cat is ruined.
