It was not in an accident, the latch mechanism just broke. We were told we had to buy a whole new door and that just isn't an option. Anyone know how to get in there and replace the latch? I appreciate any input. Thanks.

whoever told you that you had to replace the whole door is crazy!, the inside door panel has to come off and then you can look inside the door
and see the broken part and replace it.

Remove door panel. Just a couple of screws and little plastic rivets Around the edges. You can't see the rivets just pry the panel away from the door around the edges. Remove Big screws holding the latch to the door when the door is open you see them. Move the plastic or metal clips from the rods that connect to the latch from the door handles to the door latch. You may have to loosen or remove bolts to the window guide. to get the latch out. The window guide may be in the way. Reverse procedure for installation of the new latch.
