I am interested in buying this 1994 Iszus Rodeo LS from a Private Seller for $1,500 willing to take $1200 for it as is. She said that there was two things that needed repair, 1- carrier bearings need to be replaced/repaired 2- the axel bearing needs to be completely replaced for sure.

How much would it cost to have these things done at a fair price, including cost of labor?. She told me she would pay to have it fixed if it wasnt too much and then add the cost of the repairs to the total selling price. What am I looking at here....a deal or no deal kinda thing?

Help, I really need a car....oh and its got 95,000 miles on it, new brakes, new tires, and new MP3 player. Blue book says its really worth about $3500 once the problems were fixed.....please help....

The cost of repairs could get expensive the way mechanics charge today for labor. If, you or a friend could do the repairs it be less than $100 I would think. I know Axle Bearings are cheap, but, not sure about a Carrier Bearing, it on the Drive Shaft. I replaced one for a friend on a Ford Ranger and it cost $50 for it and was easy, anyone can do it.
This is a good Vehicle for the money, I would buy it as I can fix it.

I would "first" verify that they are right about the repairs that it needs. Carrier bearings are on the differential and I would figure that by the time you are finished you would have passed up the book value of a vehicle that you cannot drive and fully test out as it is now. Skip this dog and find a running driving one at a good price. You will save yourself a huge mistake if you do.

Take it to a dealership or trustworthy shop and have them inspect it and be prepared to pay their diag fee -- reputible shops charge one hour diag time -- around $80-100 or so, depending on where you live. Tell them you want an estimate of repairs for carrier bearings and axle bearings --first, find out from the owner how she knows that's what it needs. For the diag fee, the shop will work up an estimate complete with parts, labor, and tax; they can also tell you the availability of the parts needed for the repair and how long the repair would take. Try one of these:

1. How expensive would these repairs be to have done?

2. How much would these repairs cost?

Either way, you will sound like you gained 100 IQ points instantly.
