Maintenance & Repairs - November 2006

Was given a 93 Dodge Caravan, it is a bit smashed up on the side. The left indicators do not work and either does the back left brakelight. The headlights and tail-lights work fine though . Any ideas how to fix this? Could it be just the bulbs ?

This was my first time driving a stick shift car and i shifted from 4th to 3rd thinking it was 5th and kept a constant highway traffic speed of around 70-75 for 3 hours. (i feel dumb not hearing the high reving noises.. but hey you live and learn.)

I own a 2002 ford focus automatic SE, which is still under purchased extended warranty.

The problem is that when I am driving at about 60mph, it jerks as though someone has just stepped on the brakes. Also, when I am at a stop light, it cuts out. I hear a loud electrical inteferrence, the ABS and the brakes lights come one, then the engine cuts out. It doesn't happen everytime, but becoming more common. After it cuts out, I put the car in park and start it again and it is fine. My husband seems to think its the transmission, but he's not a car person.

I only have saturdays to go the dealership, so I would like to have an idea before I go in and wait 4 hours, to find out its not covered in my warranty.

Also do they charge to look at cars to see whats wrong, as in, if i decide not to fix it right away, will i have a $300 bill? Any help is appreciated!

Anyone know how to disassemble a tilt steering column?
need to tighten up the tilt mechanism but can't get to it.
all visible fasteners has been taken off but still can't
get to it.

Today on the way to work my 2000 Hyundai Excel X3 run out of fuel. I went to the service station and purchased a jerry can and 5 litres of petrol and put it in the tank.

However, the car still will not start. I assume this is because there is no fuel in the engine to start it up - thus no new fuel being pumped from the tank...

There must be a way to restart a car after it has been run dry.

Any suggestions?

my o3 citroen c3 while drivng you lose power the fuel light comes on on the dash it will accelerate above 18mph there is no power at all i switch off for a couple of minutes re start and its fine but then happens again peraodiclly i have had the car since new and it has just started to happen (diesel c3 desire)

I have an escort Gti mark6 & its loosing oil somewhere but its not leaking anywhere, not sure if its burning it or not, vehicle had an oil change about 3 weeks ago & within 2 weeks there was no oil reading on dipstick also we have fitted 2 sets of sparks plugs within that time & no. 2 keeps going. My truck will start fine when it's cold outside or it has sat for a while, but if go to the store then come back out, it usually gives me trouble starting. Sometimes it will just keep turning over for a few seconds and take right off, but sometimes I will start it, it will turn over for a couple seconds, completely shut off like the battery has been disconnected, then immediately come back on and start right up. My battery terminals are loose and I have to tighten them periodically. I just needed to know if that was the key problem or if it could have anything to do with the starter or anything else.

It's a mercedes 230. The door is damaged and needs readjustment (somebody opened the back door while car was backing up and it hit a column) I got an estimate for almost $ 2,500 which is basically how much a new door would cost and it would take two weeks to do it. I don't mind going anywhere in OC to find a good mechanic who is not outrageously expensive. Also, I need a good rental place to get another car while mine is getting fixed. Ever since I got my truck, Ive been wanting to customize it. I woul love to body drop it, add in some bags. But the only problem is that its a 4X4. should I just live it like it is and just put some 20's or take off the all the 4X4 components. Any advice will taken into consideration.

My compact Vibe has 205/55R16 tires H rated. I want to put 215/60 or 65 16 on at T rated. Is this a crime against humanity. And yes I know it will affect my speedo a bit, but it will improve ride, mileage, and I can buy cheaper tires.
