I drive a Volvo 2001 S40. This morning I dropped my son off at the daycare, when I got back in the car and turn the key to start it nothing at all happened. The engine didn't even turn over. So I took the key out and put it back in to try again. When I tried to turn it this time some of the lights on the dash thingy lit up, but they were flickering and I could here a strange clicking sound, but the engine still didn't start. This all seemed strange to me considering I was just driving it fine 5 minutes prior. The car is now stranded and I don't know what to do. I don't know anything about cars so hopefully my wording is understandable. I am thinking it may be the battery but I really don't know. Can anyone help me?

Yes, I understand that they take it, and sell it, and you pay the outstanding. BUT.

If there was (cosmetic) damage or any minor repairs needed to the car before it got repo'd, would they do the repairs and then sell it at auction? Or would they just sell as is to get as much, or as little as they can for it? I've hear a horror story about repair costs being tacke don to the debt balance. Is this fact or fiction?

I just inherited a 1992 Jeep Cherokee from my fiance's grandfather. My father-in-law has decided that I'm not allowed to drive off the property until he installs the Neutral Safety Switch. The only problem is that he's not a mechanic. He broke the bolt off into the transmission body, and he tried to use a tap straight through the bolt to make room for yet another bolt, and then he broke the tap off in the trans body. We've tried welding the switch right on, but he broke that off too (sigh...). I've tried convincing him that I don't need this, as I have never started my car in anything but park! But he refuses to budge.

Anyone have any creative ideas on how to get this darn neutral safety switch onto a 14 year old Jeep without causing too much stress on the car?

Okay, '95 Ford Explored, Eddie Bauer edition, little over 100thousand miles on it- only just beginning to have occasional trouble. Today, it won't start- we jumped it, and it took us to town and back- as soon as it was shut off, it won't start again. We thought it couldn't be the alternator since the battery didn't die on the way, is it most likely the battery?

Also- the transmission has recently developed a problem.
It will not shift out of first on it's own, you have to let off the gas, wait for the tach to drop below the 2, and then press the gas again, and it shifts. Every other gear it does fine, just has difficulty leaving 1st. Any thoughts?

I own a 99 1/2 Jetta. I need to have the brakes replaced, and unfortunately with my schedule have left them go long enough that the rotors are rubbing. Can I request that the mechanic just replace the brake pads and not the rotors? Does that just mean that I'll wear through the brake pads faster. Know any fair estimates for small repair shop in Pa? Thanks.

I have a weird problem with my A/C unit in my car. I have a older car in which I believe their is a small leak in the a/c unit. Recently, I put coolant (or whatever that stuff is you place in the a/c) into the car.
For some strange reason the A/C blows cold air in the morning hours and late afternoon. It only blows hot air in the mid-afternoon hours (the time I need it the most).
It is to my understanding that the A/C Coils good be to hot for the unit to kick in. The part I am confused about is that if it is 90 degrees in the mid-afternoon and it is 90 degrees in the late afternoon, then why does it only work in the late afternoon?

Any suggestions?

I own a 2001 Toyota Corolla with about 88700 miles. The problem is that everytime I start up the engine from a cold start it makes this high pitched squeaking noise. The noise sounds like it is coming from the timing belt however, it is still in good condition. Also after driving for about 15-20 min the sound will jsut stop. What do you think it might be? Any help would be appreciated. :)
