Give rubbing compound a shot, but be prepared to do some work too. If your paint is faded, dirty or anything like that, rubbing compound will take that out. If you go to get a scratch out, you'll be rubbing a bigger area, and may end up with one large, clean area and the rest still looking like it did before...keep an eye on that.
Make sure you wash the car first, do the rubbing compund and then through on a coat of wax.
If it's bad enough, then head to the dealership that makes your car. Car companies all have their own colors, i.e. Ford's green is different than Chevy's green, so to match it properly, go back to whomever makes your car and match the color with them. They should give you a small bottle of touch up paint (if you don't have one in your glove box already).

A surface scratch can be removed w/any type of rubbing
compound you can find @ any auto parts store.
A deep scratch would have to be filled in w/touch up paint.
