I have failed the emissions test even though i used one of those treatments that is supposed to promise that you'll pass......someone told me that if you added a bottle or 2 of rubbing alcohol to the gas tank it would do the same thing.....i'm not going to try it but, is that even safe?......has anyone else ever heard of this??

I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am with about 52k in miles.

Last week I went to start it and it was dead. Flat dead. Just a click when I turned the ignition. No lights, radio, etc.

Battery obviously being dead, and refusing a jump, I went and got another one. Car worked fine.

Tonight I drove it to the drug store. I noticed the lights seemed a bit dim, but car seemed fine. Drove home. 2 hours later my husband drove the car to the grocery store. When he went to start the car, it was again totally dead.

The ignition didn't turn over, just the click noise. No power at all. Couldn't close the window. Couldn't even pop the trunk.

What's going on here? I vote our alternator is dead. My husband thinks it's something else. He likes to believe he is the reincarnation of Mr. Goodwrench, but trust me, he isn't. Could it be the ignition switch? A fuse? Something else?

Car being towed to shop tomorrow, but I'd to have an idea of what we are in for before then.

Thanks!

I picked up a head that has valves and cam shaft intact.
It is dirty, but I figure I can soak it in solvent. I am interested
in taking it a part just for the fun of it, and then reassembling it.
Am I just spitting in the wind, or could this be a learning project?
I have never done any type of head work before.

My car muffler broke today. Luckily it broke near my home and I managed to bring the car home and I think my car didn't make lot of noise. I am planning to take my car to a muffler shop (7 miles away from my home) tomorrow. I am planning to take local roads (30 miles speed limit).

1. Please let me know if a cop can stop me for this?
2. How much does it usually cost to replace the mufffler?
3. Or Is it worth to just weld the pipe?

Pls. let me know.

Intermittent no start for the last 21/2 years when warm and cold. In the 21/2 years i have had 3 remanufactured starters installed. The engine doesn't turn over and all i get is a click or a delay of 1 to 2 seconds before it will turn over when the key is in the start position. I had a coolant leak from the air relief valve that was spraying over - and + battery cables.I have a man. trans. They replaced the remanufactured starter with another and i still get the intermittent no start. I went to a junk yard and found a newer interlock relay and replaced it only to find it wasn't a bad relay. The last time i brought it in to have them check it they said there was a wiring problem. I don't know if it was a coincidence, but when i got back from having them check it. I pushed on the wires that go to the strater and had no problem for about 2 months then it started agian. What should i do different this time when i bring it in to them? They are ASE and have trusted them for 15 yrs bring it

I live in Michigan and purchased a 2000 Chevy S-10 brand new in August of 2000. I have had the truck for six years now and I have just replaced the timing chain for the third time since I purchased this vechicle. I could be wrong, but this seems abnormal to me, since I have had twenty year old vechicles that never had this problem. The truck now has a little over 80,000 miles on it. Does anyone know what the Lemon Law is for Michigan and if I can do anything about my problem. If you do please tell me who I need to contact and what all I need to persue the issue.

I had my car towed to a nearby AAA repair shop to have a motor put in my car but when they told me what it would cost, I nearly passed out. I was ready (reluctantly) to pay about half that. I know it's a big job and I'm willing to pay a fair price. I just think that's over the top. Whadda you Motor Heads think?

If that's what it cost, would you put that kinda money in a car that old?
