yes he can pull you over. i assume the car is very loud now and that is considered a noise violation. you can get a ticket but if your not going far the chances are slim. and if you do get pulled over, just explain to him that you are on your way to the shop and he may let you go. the cost of replacing the cost varies greatly depending on where the muffler broke. if it broke before the catalytic converter then it would be fairly cheap to fix and you could just weld it yourself. if it broke after the catalytic converter then it will be a few hundred dollars to fix and you will probably not be able to fix it yourself unless you really know your cars and your welding. hope i helped. good luck.

Hi neighbor, I live the other side of Madison, so I know the state laws.
If you drive careful you should be fine.
A cop can stop you if you seem to be making a lot of noise.
Even if you get stopped you will only be issued a warning ticket which means you will have about 7 days to get it fixed.
The last I knew you don't have to take the car to have it inspected, just drive it after it is fixed.
The warning ticket will not put points on your license or cause a fine.
Depending on what shape the pipes are in you could get by as cheap as $30 or as much as $200. Get an estimate in writing and make them justify any extra costs above the estimate.

Yes, a cop can stop you and issue you a fix it ticket for it. What that means is if you later on go to court and show the judge paper work proving you've gotten your car fixed, they will usually toss the ticket. Since the mufflers that most cars come with from the factory are crap, it would probably be better for you to just get the muffler replaced. Besides, you could use this as an excuse to get a high performance cool sounding muffler put on.

Here in Va. yes, they can stop you for making too much noise, and the ticket will be for defective equipment. If you tell the officer that you are on your way to have it repaired at the moment they stop you, they will probably leave you alone. They may follow you to the repair shop, but that is where you are headed. The chances are you will not meet a cop the entire journey you plan to take. Go ahead and drive it to the repair shop and have the muffler replaced, just as easy to replace the whole muffler as it is to repair a pipe.

yes, under 2 or 3 laws they can write you a ticket, in most cases they are dismissed if you take a new muffler repair ticket into the judge showing repairs done since the ticket was received, not always...

they can stop you especially if your state has strict emissions laws or noise ordinance.if you let them know you are going to the repaire shop im sure they will let you go.
probly around $100-$200 depending on make model and severity of damage
usually wont weld it unless it broke at the pipe.

Alright, yes they can. But its doubtful that they will unless you drive a very large V8 that just pumps sound out its rear-end. I just took my muffler off 2 years ago due to the fact that it kept falling off so I just threw it in the back of my truck and kept driving. It sounds cooler, gives you better gas millage and power. But it is illegal so if you are pro law then go get it put back on.
