You should expect to pay either the minimum shop charge ~ 1/2 hour worth of time at the shop rate. If the shop is charging $90.00 per hour, expect to pay at least $45.00.
Some shops will not run REAL diagnostics for less than 1 hour shop of time.
TIP----> Don't take your car to a shop and tell them what to diagnose. It can cost you a lot of money, and still not repair the problem.
Take your car to the shop and tell them what the signs and/or symptoms are that concern you.
You may very well indeed know what to look for, but you are paying them for answers, let the shop supply them.
If you take your car in, and ask them to diagnose the engine for a lack of power, and they do just that and recommend that you repair a failed coil wire, and you repair the wire, if you take your car out and the power is still low (no change), the shop did exactly what you told them to do. And they have the right to charge you for the diagnosis and the repair. But your car is still not up to speed.
If on the other hand, you ask them to diagnose the loss of acceleration, as it seems to be a bit sluggish, then they will look further than the engine, and may find that the real problem is a seized parking brake cable that won't release and therefore not allow the car to accelerate. Now he repairs the real problem, and charges you for the correct repair and diagnosis.
Hope this gives you some direction.
Good Luck

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.pcboostcleaner.net
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

as far as running codes ill pull them free just like auto zone does
interpiting the codes is where i get paid if you get a catilitic converter insificant code you can chainge the cat [$300]and still have the same code because 1 of your oxy sencers [$100] may be weak
and still not set the oxy code most shops will charge 1/2 to 1 hour time $40 to $100 may get charged more if it is a egr code they may need to remove parts to test the ports

nothing if you take it to auto zone or advance auto. They will come out to your car and check it for free. They do this because they are anticipating that you will by the parts necessary to fix it there. Though you are not inclined to do so.
