I have a 1968 Mustang convertible with a power top. The fluid is gone from the hydralic system. What type of fluid can be used as a replacement? Transmission? Hydralic? what?

I will be driving my car on vacation this summer--about 1500 miles round trip. What inspections/tune-ups should I ask my mechanic to perform prior to the drive? I want to be in a position to ask for exactly what I want, in the hope that I won't get talked into a lot of services that I don't need. I drive a 2002 Kia Spectra, manual transmission, with about 105,000 miles, but otherwise in fairly good condition.

I appreciate your advice.

My boyfriend recently had his car fixed by a friend of a friend and paid cash to have his clutch worked on. Lately, his car has not been running as smoothly as it used to and it is having problems starting. We looked under the hood to see if there was fluid leaking or something like that and noticed that his alternator looked like it had been switched. My boyfriend got a brand new alternator not too long ago and it had a barcode and sticker on the front and looked very new overall. The one that is in his car now is old and completely different looking. He called the guy up and asked about it and the guy denied even touching the alternator. Then we looked again and decided it really is a different alternator, and my boyfriend called again and the guy hung up on him. We are sure that this guy did something to his car...maybe even more than the alternator. Is there anything we can do to bust this guy?

ok, I drive a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan and we have never had any trouble with it. Well the last two weeks or so every once in a great while it would shut off for no reason. Well tonight it did it every time we slowed down (enough to turn) and every time we turned left. Does anyone know what is or could be going on??? We almost got hit once because we stalled while turning and a car was coming. We are taking it to a mechanic in the morning but I was just wondering if anyone knew what it could be. Thanks!

When I first get up and pull my car out of the garage, it starts up, but with a cluggy, sluggish sound. It doesn't sound like an ignition problem, but more of an exhaust problem. The exhaust pipe kind of shakes and sputters during this process. It has broken down once already because the fuel pump went out. That cost half a grand to fix but it still makes those same noises as it did before in the morning. Its okay for the rest of the day, but it just seems like its initial start up is troublesome. What gives? Will a simple oil change fix this or does it need more?

I have a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. After driving for about 10 minutes, the engine smokes and the car dies. It starts right back up and then dies again after a couple of minutes. I have recently filled the coolant. Any thoughts?

my 95 has 78k miles, ive added a spoiler from a t-bird, zero restricted exhaust and ram air. 3.1L. now i know my torqe is at higher rpm's due to my free flow exhaust and i win 90% or my races, but something is missing and i wonder if any one knows a trick or two that might give me a little more kick w/o nos. its fast and good on gas even with 93 octane, but there has to be something else i can do, its the same motor in the newer monte carlos. please help, and no bull **** answers.

My car's oil has to be added almost every week or week and a half. It only has 100,000 miles and I do not travel far. Only from home to work which is less than 10 minutes away. Could it be that there's something wrong with the make of the car?...please help.

I heard it all from no you should not and it really does not matter if you shift gears on an automatic transmission car, ive cheked my manual and it recomends shifting gears when your heavy and goin up hills. but thats about it it does not specify about normal driving and shifting, now I do it practically every single time I drive my car and the only thing i notice is that it eats up my gas faster but thats it, how harmfull it is really if you shift and down shift good... never redlining the RPMS, i acknowledge my trans. is not in excellent working condition but thats do to playing around and trying to peel-out-I know thats a no-no but its still fun.

I noticed that my voltmeter would go from about 13.5 to around 11 and then back up and later on back down.

I have a new battery, so thats not the problem.

when I take off the battery terminal, the car still runs, so I'm thinking it's the voltage regulator.

I see nothing in the book about the regulator, not even any regulators at the auto part sites.

Are the alternators built with a regulator that can't be changed.

Just today when I came back from work I noticed that I can't get the key out of the starter. With some pressure and play around I got it out. Then tried to start up again and now the key wouldn't turn. Again, with some struggle it worked... THis problem still persists and I can't use the damn Road Side Assistance since I'm not registered for it. Anyone has any ideas what the problem might be from and how to get it fixed? My car is a '94 C280.

Appreciated.
