I have a 1968 Mustang convertible with a power top. The fluid is gone from the hydralic system. What type of fluid can be used as a replacement? Transmission? Hydralic? what?

It is a special hydraulic fluid. check with someone who deals with antique and classic cars "do not guess" you could ruin the seals in the system. You might check with ford.com and see what they recommend, or perhaps some place that rebuilds classic cars. I do remember that it is a very light weight fluid and it is clear like jack oil kind of. good luck.

Hydraulic Fluid goes in those Cylinders. You can use Brake Fluid, temporarily. But that is only to clean them and see if they function properly.

You can use hydraulic fluid, trans fluid, wesson oil, ETC call your local ford dealer, they will be able to tell you in about 5 mins what to use.

Shock oil, probably.

But it'll be less labor-intensive and frustrating to replace the components that have begun to fail. And it just may be cheaper. I'd call around to some reputable shops to see what they recommend.
