Here's the skinny of it!
Always check your battery cable connections first. (clean and try starting again)
NO START?
connect a boost battery - does it start or still click?
IT STARTS?
have battery checked out ( if battery is fine you need to find out what discharged the battery) It could be a short draining the battery while truck is off or it could be alternator is not charging properly. It could be just a broken wire to the alternator.
IT STILL JUST CLICKS?
First check that all cables and wires to your starter and solonoid are firmly connected. If they are then, check out your starter and solonoid. starter could have short in it. (a little trick is to tap on the starter while attempting to crank the engine. If the truck starts, you have a short in the starter, replace it soon. The truck may continue to start after you tap the starter this time, but the same "no start" will occur again, at a most inopportune time.

1. If none of your lights or accessories turn on then your battery is drained and it may be bad or just have an alternator that's not charging properly.
2. If your lights DO turn on then you probably have a starter problem. If it's a Ford then check the starter solenoid.
3. Worst case scenario and extremely rare is your engine may be locked up. Highly unlikely but still a possibility.

OK Later model fords have two items that might click in the "start" position. In relay box a starter relay, and a solinoid , like a GM, on the starter. The wire that goes to the starter motor solinoid are known to lose connection, replacements are available at Napa, O' Reilly's, etc. ck. for power at this wire or apply pressure on it with some one holding key in "start" position. In PARK, foot on brake, parking brake applied to be on the safe side. The connector is the slide on type. If the vec. cranks, replacing the wire (pig tail ) is easy . cut wire close to connector , crimp on pig tail w/ butt connector. fini. this i hope is the prob. repair is Cheap PS disconnect Batt when repairing, the cable to the starter is "hot" also like a GM>

When my car did that, it turned out to be the altinator (or however you spell it),also known as a starter motor. Something that turns around, and makes the car start. Sorry, I'm a girl, I'm not very mechanical.
It's not your battery. If your battery was dead it wouldn't be making any noises at all.

Several things could be wrong... battery could be completely dead, there is no oil at all... I suggest having a mechanic look at it so they can access what is wrong.

I think that your battery may be dead, or you have a bad ground connection.
