I have a 1993 Pontiac Grand Am that requires R-12 refrigerant. My mechanic says that he can't recharge it there, and to look for stuff called AutoFrost. I read on the internet that you need some type of certification for it. But, he said I could find it at Walmart, or some type of store like that. Which is true? Do they even make R-12 available to the public anymore? Has anyone had this problem? I don't want to have to change my A/C system to the R-134, or whatever it is, that could be expensive... any suggestions? Thanks!

I recently replaced the cylinder head gasket for my vehicle after it overheated and blew it. Two weeks along the way the car idling starts to be unstable and the power goes down, only to find that oil and water are being mixed up but the head gasket is still fine, what could be the problem?

It was their fault, but their insurance only paid about half due to their own estimate. I went to a local body shop and found the cost of repairs at twice the amount. The insurance company policy is that they won't pay any more until auto is at the shop and the shop calls to iron out the repair cost with the insurance adjustor. The thing is I don't want to fix it, but I want to be reimbursed the full damage done to my car.

Do you think body repair shops would go in with me if I say to call and get them(ins co.) to realize and pay full price for the damage, but don't fix my car? Would they do that for me? I'm thinking maybe not but what if I say you(body shop) can take half of the payment; now there's a incentive, and they won't be wasting their time. Anything ethically or morally wrong with this?

I have a 2002 chevy Cavalier w/ about 100,000 miles on it. Recently, the car pulls forward whenever I turn on the air conditioning. The tachometer jumps up and down. Also, when I start the car, the tachometer has been up very high (around the 2 mark). I feel like sometimes the car is on the verge of stalling (tachometer very low, almost zero) and the car pulls when going up hills. The car is still drivable, but I don't want to get in an accident. Does anyone know what's wrong with it? I can't afford to really screw up my car. Any help would be appreciated. I have no one to ask for car advice and I don't want to get screwed by a auto repair place. Thanks!

I just repaired a leaking compressor of the aircon of my Benz 200 (1990 model) by changing the rubber but found out that each time I put it on, it draws power so much that the engine will die off if I dont hold the throttle pedal down. Even the oil pressure gauge goes down significantly and affect cruising speed also. On advice, I changed the alternator from 55amps to 90amps but notice no diferrence. What is the matter?
