this is like money and relationships. you can go a few different ways.

does the friend know about the damage and if so did he apologize or offer to help? if he doesn't know, mention it to him.

if you feel he should take care of it and want him to, be prepared for the relationship to suffer.

a good friend would offer some type of assistance.

what's more important to you? the car of the friendship? i say if he's not offering to help then make him. a friend that would do something like that to you isn't that good of a friend to begin with.

If the car is over 3 years old its hard to prove that it is all your friends fault.
Now if the engine cracked, exploded or ran into something thats different.

Fix your car rather than lose a friend. This is what i suggest.
Simply dont give out your car to anyone else from now.;

depends on the circumstances... although he should have checked the fluid levels before he operated the vehicle..did you inform him of any leaks... If it was a clear case of abuse then he should pay the bill... other wise I think a 50/50 split would be in order...but bare in mind the repair bill may exceed the vehicles net worth...

He is on the hook for being a responsible car owner, especially with a loan. You may have to take him to small claims court to get the money from him.
