I just repaired a leaking compressor of the aircon of my Benz 200 (1990 model) by changing the rubber but found out that each time I put it on, it draws power so much that the engine will die off if I dont hold the throttle pedal down. Even the oil pressure gauge goes down significantly and affect cruising speed also. On advice, I changed the alternator from 55amps to 90amps but notice no diferrence. What is the matter?

If the air conditioning is causing these problems, there is a problem with the compressor. Either there is too much freon in they system, or the compressor is going bad.

What is happening is the compressor is causing too much of a drag on the vehicle, and slowing the RPMs down. It may also cause the belt to be slipping.

did you overcharge the system? how much freon was added? too much will cause the compressor to work too hard and hold the engine back, or one of the connectors that "bump" up the idle when the ac is on is not connected or loose .
