When you think VW, what do you think? Is it a good car? Piece of junk? Wannabe? Stylish? Subtle? Just tell me what you think, I'll pick the answer that is closest to my beliefs.

Alright, here we go. I have a 1973 VW Rail. It used to have a generator but I "upgraded" it to the 1973 and 1/2 VW. This is thee magic year when VW went to alternators. My problem is It runs like a "Bat out of H_LL" untill I shift to 4th gear!. Then I slowly lose speed and must shift back to 3rd. The Chilton says the timming must be set to 5 degrees AFTDC! Well, it is a rail so I do not have vacum advance, I have thee (natorious Bosch .009 Dist) The cam has been changed to an ENGLE cam? Which model I have no idea, can't even swear it has been changed? FACTS: It is a 1600, I put dual carbs on it, one on each side, (40MM) I have set timing at 0 @ TDC, 7.5 BTDC. Neither has worked, still lose speed when I shift to 4th? Can ANYONE tell me what is up??
Thank you, Michael

I want to know how much I will have to spend for one full tank of gas for a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta GLX VR6 and about how long it will last before I have to fill it up again, I'm hoping only once a week but I don't know anything about cars and this will be my first one.

Hello, I have a 96 Jetta and last night while I was about 40 miles from home it crapped out on me. I was going up a slight hill (in 4th gear) and it started sort of jerking forward and back on me, I thought mabye I was going too slow for 4th gear so I put it in 3rd, and it did the same thing. I had to pull over. I tried many times to start it, every time it idled very rough before it eventually died... What could be causing this? I tried starting it while my friends looked under the hood and they said they saw a spark, any ideas? Is this going to be very expensive to fix?? Thanks for your help.

If I buy a programmable remote fob, get the key cut, will it start the car without being programmed for the immobiliser? I'm trying to avoid the £150 that VW UK want for a spare key.

I am changing all my speakers in my 2002 VW Jetta. I'm starting on the passenger side front door, because that one is busted.

I removed all the screws from the outside and pulled it off the top but it seems to be stuck on something around the armrest area... I've read other bullitens but they don't go into much detail on how to pry it apart. I just don't want to break anything on it... If you can help, please write in detail. I am only 17 years old trying to fix my car!! Pictures would be a great plus! Thank You!

My daughter's cabrio is leaking condensation on the driver's right foot. I'm thinking that the air conditioner drain line could be stopped up. I need to know how to check for that & how to unstop it. I'm just a mom - not a mechanic by any stretch! Thanks!

anyone know how much this is goin to cost to fix? i have a 1993, 5dr golf hatchback, took it to the garage this morn, the guy there said its definately the manifold, said its possibly coming from the exhaust or that there s a crack in in it, but he s gonna have to take the manifold cover off to have a look. One slight problem with this - the bolts are so old that they may snap, said this could be a big job :(.

I was driving to dinner with a friend tonight, only to notice, about two miles from her house that the check engine light was on. I have oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc... Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm taking it to AutoZone tomorrow to get a code for it, but any help now would be FANTASTIC! Thank you!!

Yesterday I saw what appeared to be a brand spanking new VW camper van in shiny black and white with a 2006 number plate. I always thought they had stopped making these - have they started again and if so does anyone have any info on them? If not, what was it I saw?
