Yesterday I saw what appeared to be a brand spanking new VW camper van in shiny black and white with a 2006 number plate. I always thought they had stopped making these - have they started again and if so does anyone have any info on them? If not, what was it I saw?

You did see a brand new one. I went to the camper & RV show at Bath last year and a company there had them for sale. Don't know the details of who & where, but can confirm they are new and cost just over £20k

Use your local websites from your local newspapers or free flyers or radio stations because it is going to be people in your neighborhood that is going to be interested, not somebody overseas. Stick a sign in the window and have it sit out front of your house. There are millions of 73 VW vans and they are in every country, so why would somebody in say Australia, be interested in you car when he can get one in a town 50 miles away? Shipping costs alone cost more than the car.

Volkswagen do Brasil still produces the old Type 2 van (they call it Kombi) upon which the campers were based.
See http://www.vw.com.br/default.asp?turl=%2Fautomoveis%2Fkombi%2FDefault%2Easp%3F

Danbury Motor Caravans near Bristol (http://www.danburymotorcaravans.com/index.shtml ) are importing some of these and producing camper van conversions.

Volkswagen do produce a new camper van, the California, but it is based on the current T5 Transporter van. See http://www.vw-nutzfahrzeuge.de/california/california.html

You can still buy brand new shells from VW. They still make a lot of these in Mexico i think, thats where you can buy a brand new bodyshell for very old toytas anyway.
But you have to build them up from scratch and register them as a brand new vehicle. Brilliant i think

They are AFAIR still produced in VW's Brazillian plant and are now commercially imported hers (although not by VW).
