My parents have always had VW's ever since I was a kid, and they swear by them. When I was 16 I got my mom's old jetta. I totaled it when trying to get air off a hill going over 80mph. It did so well in the crash. My friend and I walked away with no problems. More damage was done to the property and trees I hit. Later when I was 18 I got their old golf. It got totaled when I got hit backing out of my driveway (5mph) by an old lady. The frame was damaged on the passenger side and engine got crushed. Another time I was in traffic and someone hit me hard from behind when I was in my dad's passat. No visual or physical damage.

I currently drive a jeep. LOVE IT! VW's are expensive to fix. But they held up pretty well in my crashes.(never been hurt) I think the beetle is ugly. My mom now has one. They look like toy cars, but they are spacey inside, and pretty nice, but ugly. The new jetta is alright looking. Depending on the person, I think you could find a VW to fit most people. I saw a blonde in a white bug convertable, and it seemed to fit. I know some guys who have jetta's (older and newer) and the car fits.

Overall, if I liked cars, I would consider a VW. I feel pretty safe in them. However, I'm into SUV's.(wranglers specifically).. .JEEP JEEP! :)

Speaking of late VW models: stylish interior, good safety ratings, ride is not bad, variety of available engines inluding those crazy 1.8t and VR6, reliability is poor, the car made of cheap plastic, parts are expensive, so is labor at the dealer... There are no "bad" and "good" cars - it's always a compromise of some sort. Look at Toyota Corolla, for example, very reliable, cheap to service, economical, but interior is boring, so is the styling, weak engine... Plus, VW has a variety of produsts - check the Phaeton - an excellent car...

Volkswagens are benefitting from the stereotype of reliable German automobile engineering. They are very trendy, especially with people in the lower levels of academia. They are often also billed as "girl's cars" because of the ridiculous looking beetle. Frankly, I think they are uncomfortable and have poor visibility. Consumer Reports has been rating them pretty poorly recently, indicating that the engineering doesn't measure up to VWs reputation. In a word "over-priced."

Picking the answer that most closely fits your beliefs defeats the point of asking, doesn't it?

A great car that has been reliable since WWII when Ferdinand Porsche transplanted a detuned porsche engine into a normal car...they are now merging with Daimler so they will share models (Polo and PT Cruser) i think the GTI is awesome, especially the new Scirocco coming out

I've had a 1994 Jetta, and loved it. I now have a 99 Golf. And I love it even more. They drive very well, and handle beautifully even stock, and VW think of such weird things to add to their cars. Like my Jetta would lock EVERYTHING when you locked the car. The doors, the trunk, AND the gas door. They are a fun fun car.

I've had my 2000 Jetta TDI for 6 years now and it is an awesome car. Since I bought mine three others from work also bought the Jetta. Two TDI's and one 1.8T

I can't tell you how much money I have saved by buying diesel for the past 6 years and it burns a lot slower too. I get 1000K per tank.

I don't endorse buying foreign cars but if i were going to buy one it would be a VW because I had one once before and they seem to last forever.

They're great vehicles and last forever. The people that called them junk are probably chevy lovers.
