Vw carb 34 pict 3 rebuild?

carb 34 pict3 1970 bahabug i rebuilt the carb now it does not work?
carb is gettin gas, i pulled jets and stuff back out cleaned them again..everything looks right...acts like it wants to run but just wont...smokes while its running..nothing i do with the air fuel mixture screws help at all..motor ran fine before.. ive doubble checked everything,,can yall plzzz gimmie some ideasss.. also how to i check for spark? and how do i know if i have compression..thanks for ur time....

Lets get the easy stuff out first. If it starts you have spark. If it had compression before you took carb off it still does. OK? Now the smoke is it black? If yes the car is to rich. Did you put all the jet back in and make sure it is seated. Next on top of the carb is a small brass tube make sure its all the way in if its leaking even a little, which happens often, the car will not run.
Next lets look at how you started. Screw the mixture screw at the bottom of the carb all the way in then back it out 2 and a half turns, next turn the idle screw so it just touches. That should get you started. One last thing make sure the float is set correctly and that the needle is not stuck to much fuel in the bowl will leak.
