i've just got myself a new Tj and have $500.00 left. What improvement should I look at doing? I'm not skilled enough to buy a lift kit and install it myself, so forget that one.
Thanks.

I am considering buy a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I have a job that frequently takes me to muddy construction sites, dirt roads, and live in upstate NY so deal with sometimes interesting winters. I also want a convertible. Maybe a Jeep is the best of both worlds. I have generally stayed away from American car makers becuase of their less then steller build quailty. But after 5 years with a VW Jetta that has spent a lot of time at the shop, I don't want to deal with something that is going to be consistantly having stupid annoying things go wrong with it. Something else that is appealing to me about the Wranglers is the fact that their resale value seems to stay pretty good compared to other cars of the same vintage.

So, after all of that, the simple question remains, what have been your experiences with the Wrangler Unlimited: what has gone wrong, what has gone right, recalls, dealer experience, etc.

Thanks!

I am considering putting a set of Warn lock out front hubs on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee. They sell a kit, but I don't won't to put in new axles. Seems like with a little ingenuity I could put just the Warn hubs on and not the Warn axles. Seem like a waste of money to buy the high strength Warn axles for almost 100 percent of my driving is on the streets I don't get near the rocks and mud.

The body tub of my 1985 Jeep CJ7 is completely rusted out and it is totally unsafe - but mechanically it's still in pretty good shape. I need to find a good Jeep body re-build shop (or a good body shop that has experience with Jeeps) in Essex, Passaic or Bergen county NJ that can either rebuild the body or find a replacement body and do the engine remount. Any recommendations?

I sold my 82 CJ5 to an acquaintance on credit, but he never made payments, so I had to get it back. The problem is that when he tried to install a new cd player, he fried some of the circuitry. (I guess I see why he didn't want to pay for it!) Now the lights don't work and it won't start. When I charged the battery, there is enough power to run the heater motor and horn, but when I turn the key to the start position, the battery loses all its power. I replaced the starter solenoid, but that didn't help. Any clue where I should go next? I don't have the cash to take it to a shop.

The CRD offers 295 lb. ft. of torque at 1,800 RPM, vs. the 4.0 I6, which only puts out 235 lb. ft. at 3,200 RPM. Seems like the diesel would make the Wrangler (especially the Rubicon) that much more of a billy goat when it comes to 4wheeling and rock crawling.

As much as some like to swear airbags are the way to go, I don't feel a untility vehicle used for off roading needs this. I suppose if it were a primary means of transportation on major highways this would be more practical.

I was told by a dairy farmer that a Rubicon is not so much a heavier "duty" jeep as it is simply heavier. Larger rims, tires, diamand plates, etc....! So the ratio and the axle has to be different just to compensate all of that. Somehow, this sounds logical. He said it's all a "hoopla" on getting people to spend more money. He said 4 bangers were all you ever needed in a jeep yet now 6's are the way to go now. He says, "save your money". My question is, is this 77 year old farmer right? Should I stick with wrangler?
