Most Jeep dealerships don't have a clue what a wrangler is capable of, have never heard of the annual Camp Jeep or the Jeep wave (wrangler owners only wave, Cherokees, etc do not), wouldn't know a Dana 44 axle if they tripped over it and do not know they joy of climbing UP into a vehicle instead of sliding down into one.
Wrangler owners are generally fun-spirited drivers and love their vehicles. This joy is passed on to other wrangles drivers in the form of a wave. The wave is not a 2 finger flip from the steering wheel but a full, 5 finger open handed wave out the side of the Jeep (if you have the doors off). If the doors are on (sissy lol) then the full wave should be presented over the steering wheel so the other Jeep driver can see. It is acceptable for the passengers to wave also.

I have been a Wrangler owner since 1996. I have noted that people wave all the time. Usually if I drive with the top down. Someone told me it was because Jeep owners are social.

It is not officially recognized by Daimler- Chrysler. It was started when AMC still owned the Jeep name. It is not just limited to Wrangler drivers. The respect is from the pre-1987 models. Especially if you have a CJ5, CJ7, and CJ8. If you have a CJ10(not sold in North America, but are available). You should have all respect from all true Jeep fans.
All Jeep model drivers should be aware of the wave. If the wave is not returned. Do not expect to get help from other Jeep drivers. Now the sissy Jeep Liberty is in a class of its own. Now, while still a Jeep, it is mostly driven by Yuppie wanna be's.

Better keep doing that, I own a Wrangler here in Guatemala C.A., and on my first rides I look for other drivers to wave at me and no one do, so I didn't wave at them, but they really take a good look at my jeep and I at yours so maybe in some years we all take that wave thing.
Is NICE to see another proud Jeep owner.

The wave says, "Hey, we understand." What do we understand? Get a Jeep and you'll figure it out.
Since you do have a Jeep, and you don't understand the "Jeep Thing," all I can say is I feel sorry for you. If you don't want to wave, you don't have to. I don't wave at the other driver anyway, per se; I wave at the Jeep.

Its called the jeep wave, and its manditory if you drive a wrangler or jacked up, off road other jeep. If you dont... your jeep will be remembered, and you will be considered a yuppie a**hole.
If you dont wave... you dont deserve the jeep.

Its a request of the manufacturers. If you had brought a new one, you would know that. I think Jeeps are a gas since they fixed the hard seat problem. I compressed a couple of vertebrae in my back thirty years ago, went and bought a jeep and since rarely have pains because of how much those leaf springs worked my back.
