I drive a TJ currently and I always wave to any other Wrangler. Really the only time I'll wave to another Jeep model like a Cherokee is during Camp Jeep...unless I see a real nice off-road rig, then they get a wave!
There's even a few unofficial websites...check it out!! http://www.jeeptalk.org/jeep_wave.shtml

I used to wave all the time to other Jeep owners - especially Wranglers and old-school Cherokees. I owned my '96 Cherokee until today. I'm moving and can't take it with me - and it's breaking my heart, but my roommate bought it so at least I know it's in good hands. Anyway, one of my friends who drives a Wrangler told me that he only waves to other Wranglers, which made me kind of sad. I love my Jeep so much. It's the best vehicle I have ever owned, hands-down, and I really like sharing my Jeep-Joy with other Jeep owners! But oh, well. I guess it varies based on where you live.
You can bet that when I get back to the States I'll be getting another Jeep. Maybe a Wrangler, or an old Cherokee if I can find one. Man, I love my Jeep.

I have a '98 Wrangler Sport in Chicago, and in the city, about 50% of other Wrangler drivers wave, nod, or flash the peace sign. No other Jeep models have done anything.
In the suburbs, I would say it's more like 90%. Less of them around, so more of a bonding thing.

Definately. I have 2 of them and wave to every jeep I see. Some people probably look at me and say "look at that weirdo"

Waving is only done here (Australia) from wrangler to wrangler. All the other JEEPS are driven by moms and business men who just dont get it.

In the western section of the united states, wrangler drivers wave or nod to each other as a sign of glee. You have to have read the literature to know that the manufacturer has requested we do this, not the dealer. I think its in recognition that your driving a vehicle that can easily kill you in a moment of inattention.
