The company is new here in the US, and all of the owners are still working on the paperwork to get their US driver's licence, do you know if this can bring me any problems? We have international driver's licences issued in Mexico City.

A friend of mine just lost her husband to cancer. Before he died, he leased a truck. He only had it for about a year and then he died. The lease was for a few years more. Due to the loss of her husband (and his income) she could no longer afford the payments. She gave the car back to the dealership before it got repo'd. Now, she just received a bill for $12k, saying she owes the remainder amount of the lease. The dealership is going to sell or lease the truck, so basically, they'd get double paid of my friend were to pay. She couldn't afford the truck then so how in the heck is she going to afford paying the 12k? (I should mention her name is also on the truck).

The vehicle is driven, registered and insured by me but my Ex has the loan on it...and vice versa, I have the loan on his car. We have about $4000 left on each vehicle, but I bought my SUV used and its too old and has too many miles to qualify for a car loan and I can't seem to get a personal loan for that much. The easiest thing to do is just switch the cars, but I LIKE my SUV...its well maintained and clean...his car, well, he doesn't maintain and take care of it.

We're on good terms so he's okay with the situation we are in, but he has recently asked if it was okay that he contributed more on the loan I have so that his car would be paid off faster so he can get a new car. I really don't want him to pay it off and have control of BOTH cars...because the deal was that once a car was paid off, then we would send the other person the title.

Any Suggestions?

There is this 1996 Ford Mustang that a person is selling in my neighborhood. It is green, clean exterior and interior. The car has 108,500 miles on it but there is a new engine on it which only has 10,000 miles on it. It is claimed to run great. The asking price is $3,500 and it sounds reasonable. The thing is I don't know if i should sell my car (2000 Hyundai Sonata 96,000 miles) and buy this Mustang. (that is the only way i could afford it) Any Suggestions?

I'm a junior in college and I use my dad's car to get to and from school during breaks or holidays. I'm paying for school through students loans, so I will be in debt after school. So I was wondering how car loans work because I need a something big like a jeep or something, and I'm wondering if there is a such thing such as a student car loan. Something I can pay back after I graduate from college. I hope that don't sound dumb but I don't know anything about car loans.

After buying a 1998 dodge caravan from JD once it turned out well, I went back and just recently bought a second vehical last week (chrysler 300m 2001). Its only been a week and the check engine light is on. I called they want me to take it to their mechanic. I plan on staying and seeing exactly what goes on since they refused to pay for me to go to the chrysler dealer for this check engine light. Leaglly will I have a leg to stand on if I discover something was wrong with the car and they didn't address this in the contract since it is so early on. On the other hand, did I just get screwed and this is my responsibility and there is nothing I can do but complain? Am I allowed to watch the mechanic and see what he does under the hood ?

How much should one spend on a vehicle (total purchase price) as a percentage of their yearly income?

I am not including recurring expenses such as insurance, gas, etc, just the purchase of the car (e.g. 28k for a TSX)

FYI i earn 80k/year. I have heard 50% of yearly salary is a good figure. Should i spend 40k on a car? or is that too much? Please advise
