Like this car was mainly used on the highway. Is this a good or a bad thing. (2000 Corolla, 5 spd, manual, 1.6L 4cyc, 142km)

It's a good thing. City cars spend a lot of time idling in traffic. This builds heat and wastes engine life. Airplane engines and stationary motors are evaluated based on hours of use...it would probably be a good idea if a similar measurement was available for cars. By that measure, 1000 miles in city traffic would have twice the impact of 1000 miles on the open road.

which mile is different to the engine?
City miles is stop and go so the engine gets "exercised" but was it exercised at red-line? no red-line it's good.
Highway miles is steady rpm.

Was the oil changed regularly? Do they have maintaince records? Have the brakes been checked? (Not just does it stop but have they been looked at with the wheels off of the car?)

I could TELL you that my car was all Highway or all city, and lie with a smile on my face, if you know what I mean.

I myself think that Highway miles are better than city miles, but either way, miles equal wear and tear on any vehicle. But now a days, Honda's and Toyota's are running well into the two hundred thousand mile mark. If its a good deal, you might want to consider.

Yes. Cars suffer virtually no wear and tear while cruising on the motorway.

With city driving, you are constantly using clutch, gears, foot brake, hand brake etc.
