Well, sadly, many foreign made cars simply outlast the American versions. But, they do tend to cost more to fix when they do break, so you have a choice there on which way to go. If you really wish to save gas, small wagons or sedans with 4cylinder engines will be the better way to go. There are many choices out there, do a little research to see what you like and what is comfortable to you and your driving. It will be your choice, since everyone has thier own opinion and thier own preferences, just look over what comments you get, then do your own study to find out what you really like. Good luck.
PS Consumer Reports, Road and Track, Car and Driver, even MSN and Yahoo all have resources to help you learn about vehicles and values. Do a little digging.

I would go with a Ford Crown Victoria. They are really easy to come by in that price range, require little to no repairs if required maintanence is kept and also does really good on gas considering how big it is compared to compact cars.

Get this months Consumer Reports auto edition. They will give you a lot of info on good new cars, but also a good list of used cars to avoid. Get that first before doing your web research.
