Hey. I'm getting a car for my 16th birthday which will be coming up in mid-May. My parent's are buying it for me, and they told me that I can pick any car I want, it just has to be under $10,000. I'm looking for a coupe, and it has to be atleast a 1995, I'm not a fan of older cars. Got any ideas for a good car?

my cousin brought a new car (no money down) and co-signed with her mother (my aunt). they got a really low rate for financing. then she tells me that the car company looked into her mother's credit and found out that the mother had accounts with them (that are closed, this was like years ago) and are trying to give her a higher interest rate. even though all the paper work was signed and she took the car off the lot. I told her that I should talk with the dealer but she doesnt want me to. and they told her that she has to sign a new agreement (which is $50 extra or give the car back) what do I do. they are making me upset and she is frustrated?

I know some people that buy a car that's at least one year old to avoid that hit in first-year depreciation, especially on domestic models, to save money.

Then, there are others that want the "self-satisfaction" and/or feel safe buying the car completely brand new (no car issues or problems). In this manner, that person knows that they were the only one to put mileage on it.

Which is better?

I am looking at buying a used car with that has a blue book suggested retail value of $9700 (a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT AWD with 62K miles).

The dealer is asking $9800 plus fees.

Is there a rule of thumb for coming in under the blue book retail value estimate?

What should I offer?

I have a car that had broken down and a mechanic offered to fix it.
His charge was $400, I paid a $150 deposit and last month I paid him another $150.
Now he has filed a mechanics lienand wont return any of my calls.
What can I do?
I had spoken with him once before and told him I had the rest of the money but no communicating after that..

I am 24, finished paying student loans, got a good secure job for over a year now, my birthday is coming up, time to finally reward myself...I never did get a graduation present....

Each car has it's pluses and minuses...

BMW 330ci
Positives - It's a BM, the ultimate driving machine, great handling, has usable backseat, good gas milage, has an actual usable trunk.

Negatives - People think you're snobby when driving a BM, high ownership cost, not as powerful as the other car, not as fun as the other car.

Infiniti G35 coupe
Positives - 280 hp, 0-60 in 6 seconds, good handling, nice weight distribution, I love the styling, more fun than the BM.

Negatives - Bad gas milage (although my employer pays for gas), small backseats, trunk barely has enough space for two golf bags...and I don't play golf.

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of selling my car to CarMax, I own a 2003 Honda Pilot EX-L with 38K miles on it. Its served me well over the years, but it consumes too much gas for a vehicle that all too often gets used by one person. There are a few scratches on the right half of the front bumper, and the driver's seat has saggy leather with a few creases on it. Should I opt to fix these to maximize my return from CarMax, or should is the cost going to be too high?

Are there any websites similar to http://www.autotrader.com that specialize in advertising used cars for sale pre-1985?

Autotrader.com goes only back to the late 1980's I believe. Other websites like craigslist are a bit too confusing for my taste and it gives me a headache just looking there!
