Virgin Trains (UK) have placed a large ad in today's papers berating Network Rail for its decision to close, at very short notice, the West Coast Main Line on New Years Eve. To my mind this is symptomatic of the nonsense of privatisation separating infrastructure from the operation of trains. Am I alone in thinking this? Are there any advantages in this kind of structure when, historically, railways have always been organised as a vertically integrated business?

A bunch of driver's stopped and some even went to the side of the rode when an ambulance was coming but it was on the opposite of the rode where the traffic is going the other way. There's even one of those street separators with grass inbetween that side of the street going that way and the side of the street we were on. Why were the cars on our side stop? I hope this is not a sign of respect because this is not the time or the place to be trying to show respect? People are in there cars and expect to keep moving. What ever happens with that ambulance on that side of the street is not going to affect us on this side of the street, If by some long shot, that ambulance could get his truck over a small curb with grass to get to our side of the street, his truck would be damaged.

I heard that you are allowed to shift up without using the clutch, is it true, and after effects? Also when downshifting, do you have to match your downshift to the amount of rpm's? And do you always have to start in first gear, or can you start in second gear? Because, i heard that getting used to 1st gear is a little tricky. Also what will happen if you let go of the clutch early or even if you hold it in too long? Thanks.

i used the newest one when going for my permit, like when I was doing my 6 hours behind the wheel training thing. anyway i really wouldnt say I hate american cars even though i am american, I just don't care for them but the newest cobalt that came out is awesome, my cousin (who loves american cars) asked her parents for one and she got it, she's looking to buy another chevy once in college, anyway, i own a honda civic lx coupe, that is certified used and is an 04 model and I love it, but the cobalt coupe was awesome as well. How good is it on gas? is is affordable for like a college student maybe? (I might wanna buy one in a few years). I mean, whats the pro's and con's? Thanks.

I loose about a gallon of water after driving for about 25-30 milesI have looked for water leaking but the only place water comes from is the tailpipe. Also I get white smoke for just a short time when I first start the blazer. There is no water in the oil I did check for that. So I think it's the head gasket.

I own a 2000 Ford FocusZX3: Kona edition. It's in great shape, and has been maintained superbly. The only down side to this car is that it has 140,000 miles. Most of those miles, however, are Highway miles. This was a limited edition Focus, and only 5,000 were made. The retail value was $14,000, and private party value is around $4000.

i am about to buy my bike next month. Im looking at the 07 cbr 600rr so it will be cheaper but I saw the 08 cbr 600rr graffiti and i love it. Now, I cant decide what to get. the 08 is around 2k more. monthly payment will be the same for 2 years. Im 5'8' in height 170lbs. cbr is the one i chose because of the comfort. I tried r6 but its too high and heavy.
my question are,
what do you think I should get? the cheaper 07 or the 08 graffiti? or try some other brand?
how do I negotiate with the dealer to get the best deal?
Around how much do you think i will be paying for insurance? im 28 yrs old. just got my M1. Have my DL for 8 years. no bad records.
should I get the extended warranty? what is that for?

I have a 1992 Ford Taurus and recently, when I turn on the headlights at night, the dashboard and rear running lights do not turn on. I looked at the fuses and they all seem intact. This has only happened in the cold weather as of yet, so they have worked before. I'm thinking I might have a short. Does anyone know if a quick or easy way to fix it, possibly on my own without the need of a technician?

Any suggestions?

The check engine light has been on for a week, and the car runs fine. It only has 60,000 miles. How do I fix it to get the light to go out. And could it be only the canister if the scanner says it is. Thank you.

I understand that the conventional method is to use the starter motor to crank the flywheel in order to start the engine moving. But i heard that it is possible to crank elsewhere besides the flywheel. So i was wonder if it is possible.

If anyone have an answer or a website pls share. Thank you.

11 mths old, problem since purchase. Accelerate from stop position to 50 km per hour and car is in 6th gear; then coast to slow down to 35km/hr. If then want to increase speed slowly, say to 40km/hr, no downshift occurs to 5th or other gear and straining unnatural noise is heard till get back to 45 km/hr. Car always stays in 6th throughout. After 15 minutes, car warms up and transmission is normal. That is, it will drive and accelerate at even 30 km/hr and smoothly, although with little torque but no abnormal straining noise. It should downshift automatically at such low speeds when accelerating.

I'm thinking about buying a car but he says the transmission is starting to wind. Any suggestions of why that would be happening? He says it may just need to be flushed. I live in Michigan and some people say it may just be because of the cold weather....HELP!!!!!!! LOL

Well, I got approved for a car loan from the bank. Now what? Is it as easy as going to a dealer and getting the car at an amount lower than the loan? Also, I just moved to this state? I have yet to become a resident? DMV is closed today and through new year but incentives to buy expire on Jan. 2. Would me not being a resident matter?

My boyfriend of 8 years is buying a car. The loan will be in his name only. But, the car is intended for me (he already has a manual transmission, this car is an automatic and I don't know how to drive stick shift.) He wants to know if I want to put my name on the title too. My name will most likely be added to his insurance policy.

What are the practical implications and legal implications of putting my name on the title when it's not on the loan? Any good reasons not to put my name on the title?

I owned a 94 Pontiac Bonneville from 1998-2005. When I was stopped at a light, the dashboard caught on fire. By the time I safely got out of the car, it was engulfed in flames and totaled. It had 143,000 miles on it. The fire dept. said it was an electrical problem under the hood. Has anybody had this misfortune w/a Bonneville or other car, for that matter?

We just bought a new car and the highway mpg was estimated at 34. I've read reviews of people getting even higher. However, our mpg over Christmas driving (about 900 miles), was disappointing at 29 mpg. Now I speed so would driving 75-80 as opposed to 60-65 really cut my mileage by 5 mpg? Anything else I can try to increase my mpg?
