I own a 2000 Ford FocusZX3: Kona edition. It's in great shape, and has been maintained superbly. The only down side to this car is that it has 140,000 miles. Most of those miles, however, are Highway miles. This was a limited edition Focus, and only 5,000 were made. The retail value was $14,000, and private party value is around $4000.

Mileage is mileage and 140,000 highway miles puts just as much wear on mechanical components as the same amount around town do. The only difference is one driven primarily in town will generally show more wear on the interior due to more use of the brake and clutch pedals and constant entering and exiting of the car. The engine and drive train are still worn just as much and are the big ticket items when repairing. I personally wouldn't consider the car for purchase. But then, all people don't think like I do.

I think it's really common for people to overprice their cars. KBB may say that it is worth x dollars, but you'll have a really difficult time selling it at that price. Have you tried edmunds.com? They have a "true market value" calculator that seems to work. But to actually answer your question, no. It doesn't really matter that it was a limited edition, because the type of person who is buying a 2000 Focus will not care. They probably just need cheap transportation. I think a more realistic number is about $2500, $3000 absolute max.

Also, remember that it's a Ford. The depriciation is steep and fast, so you can't demand such a high price.

You might know you car is reliable and will last longer, but when people go to buy cars the first thing they want is LOW miles on it. I wouldnt pay 4k for it. Also my mechanic told me to never buy a Focus because everything is crammed together under the hood.

I wouldn't get you a dime for that high mileage thing. 8 years old, 140K miles, & a sports car that someone beat on? Pass. Try selling it on ebay. G'luck.
