You should be able to get a temporary tag for transporting a vehicle from one state to the other. When you get to Florida, check with the local motor vehicle department & tell them what's going on. They will be able to assist you. You might need to bring proof of insurance with you. You can have your insurance company fax you something.

if its from a dealer they will give u a document 2 place in the windshield which is called a "drive-out permit" and means u r transporting the vehicle from one state to your home state 2 license and title there. however u still MUST have insurance on this vehicle, call ur ins company beforehand and have them call the dealer or the seller and they can get all info needed 2 insure it and u can either pick-up a copy of the insurance info with the vin on it before u leave or they can fax it 2 where u r picking the unit up.
if its a semi truck u must still fill out a log book and run legal and stop at all ports of entry/ weigh stations. they may have u purchase a 24hr fuel permit 4 each state u travel thru but u can do that at the port of entry. also having a CDL and receint medical card helps a lot or if they stop u you'll sit and pay a heck of a fine.

if its from an individual have him make you out a receipt stating u own it free and clear, carry the signed title with u unless its still coming from the bank where they have it financed, and if no title aviliable from bank yet ask the seller 2 get a signed document from the bank stating it will b forwarded 2 u when received.

all states understand what u r doing as its not their first rodeo, but make sure u have ALL documentation i have mentioned here should u be stopped as the process will go smoother and easier.

i purchased a semi off e-bay in texas and drove it back 2 my home 1,440 miles away with no problems and was only stopped once 2 check documentation, thats my experience with this.

The dealer can probably set you up with temp or paper plates. You'll also need to get insurance in your name. If you already have insurance, on another car, then check with your agent as you may be covered. Hope you look real good at that car. Cars driven in the Gulf Coast area are notorious for rusting out at an early age. Gulf Coast Cancer is what it is commonly known as when the rust bubbles start to appear in the paint.

Go to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) there and buy a "Transport Permit". All states have them and most are valid for 10 days to let you drive a vehicle home.
EDIT
PS Raven is right about the insurance too.

Just let them know the situation if you get stopped. People drive with other plates daily where I live
