i used the newest one when going for my permit, like when I was doing my 6 hours behind the wheel training thing. anyway i really wouldnt say I hate american cars even though i am american, I just don't care for them but the newest cobalt that came out is awesome, my cousin (who loves american cars) asked her parents for one and she got it, she's looking to buy another chevy once in college, anyway, i own a honda civic lx coupe, that is certified used and is an 04 model and I love it, but the cobalt coupe was awesome as well. How good is it on gas? is is affordable for like a college student maybe? (I might wanna buy one in a few years). I mean, whats the pro's and con's? Thanks.

well affordabilty just depends on your budget and whether or not you want all the goodies loaded on or just the basic model. I have a 2006 ls model. No power doors/lock nothin fancy but I bought it off the showroom floor for $11,500. It's very good on gas around 25-30mpg city 30+ on the highway. Its about your best bet for a new car on a budget I haven't had any problems with mine. If you are a speed demon the 2008 SS model is now turbocharged instead of supercharged!

6 years later..... I certainly have owned a 2007 Chevy cobalt coupe perfect when I totaled it I have been given a 2009 Chevy Aveo hatchback, in the two autos I certainly have made long journeys, the two are relatively sturdy autos, the cobalt I hit a coyote going seventy 5, did no longer roll, in simple terms took the front of my motor vehicle off as quickly as I took out a barrier cable, held up fantastically. maintance is straightforward on the two, I omit the arise and flow of the cobalt, yet gas mileage is greater suitable with the aveo, so some distance as length, Aveo is smaller, except you get hatch decrease back and placed the seats down, then there is greater shop room. so some distance as coping with is going, they seem to be a pair years aside so the steerage, sprint and over all is an identical, the aveo could make tighter turns. usual the two are sturdy autos, sixteen 12 months previous brother in simple terms have been given a in many situations happening 2008 cobalt and it handles in simple terms like my coupe did.

Although most owners seem to like them, the main knock on the Cobalt is that their reliability is sub-par compared to its competitors. Plus, they depreciate a lot faster.
In addition, the Cobalt is basically the old Cavalier with a new name.
Consumer reports prefers the Civic and the Mazda 3 in this class. You get more car for your money without as many reliability issues down the road.
If you prefer to buy American, I would recommend the Ford Focus or the Ford Fusion.

The new Chevy Malibu looks really nice. How they compare vs. the foreign cars in its class (Accord and Camry) is yet to be seen.

I test drove a cobalt before I ended up buying a suzuki. It is a nice car and the and it probably gets about 20 mpg. If you have a honda though, that is a pretty solid car, probably not too bad on gas either.

i'd def. recommend the cobalt. GM's reliability has been much better during the past 10 years, they are right up to par now with their competitors. you might be able to find a used one for even cheaper than that one person said. maybe i'll look for one too, lol. i kinda need a car that gets good gas mileage,
