There's an important process to go through after you've just fitted a new cam shaft in your engine before driving with it. Apparently it's a "Little known" procedure and few people I know have ever heard of this - even those who've been maintaining their cars all their life and even rebuilt engines to one extent or another.

When I mention this to people (eg to the professional mechanic who just fitted my Golf head with a new cam in it), I get responses like "I've never heard of that" and "No, no, just drive it".

I know what it is but I'm wondering how many people have this knowledge in the front of their minds?

It's obviously something to do with running in as I'm talking about a "newly fitted cam shaft".

Do you need special oil for motorcycles when doing an oil change? I've got some Castrol GTX 10W-40 for my Kawasaki ER5, but it doesn't say it's specifically for motorcycles, but does that even matter?

My friend likes off-road biking and is a hard-core motorcycle enthusiast.
I'm going to Japan next month and would like to get him a gift any motorcyclist would die for. Any suggestions?
Maybe helmet brands or anything else which is interesting?

The condition is as follows. It does start. Has a problem starting right away due to the head gasket.
Has brand new battery, EGR valve, Plugs, Wires, and cap and rotor.
it also has a brand new coil and alternator. All of these parts replaced since may of 07.
It has a alpine cd player with ipod connection on it and upgraded 6x9 speakers in the rear. It has a custom box also. Depending on how much it sells for I may leave my 2 JL 12w3's in there with it's box.
Tires are in very good condition. I have new tail lights for it from APC that are all clear and I just put on it not to long ago the APC mirrors with turn signals.
I have a brand new set of rear brakes that I haven't put on yet that will go with the truck.and the front ones were replaced not to long ago also.

Is this worth buying for 1,500??
How much do I need to replace the head gasket?or can this be fixed?

Thanks in advance!

I always get frustrated when someone tailgates me, or just stops before they rear end me or pulls out from a stop sign a little too far as I drive, or doesn't stay in their lane or cuts me off, arghhh other drivers

i have a 1998 oldsmobile intrique. the other day the power steering went out.. it started making some noise when i would turn the wheel then all at once it quit working completely..
i checked the fluid level and it was really low. refilled it, took it down the road and it felt like it tried to work for about 2 minutes then it went out again. when i checked the fluid this time it was just as low as the first time but when i removed the cap it was like it had pressure to it. it sounded like when you open a bottle of pop with the air pressure being released. and the fluid was all foamy. do i have a leak or is my pump going out???? please help, i drive this car 65 miles one way to work and it sucks driving it without power steering..

it has a boost gauge inside the car.. i'm not sure how a turbo gauge works.
the car runs great. one side of the guage reads vac. and the other side reads boost with 0 in the middle. when i'm driving the needle is usually somewhere in the vac. side. if i really get on the trottle sometimes i can get to about 3-4 on the boost side. it guage reads all the way to 15. i just figured it should get more boost than that..
can someone please explain how the turbo works, what is the differance between vac. and boost. and could there be something wrong with the turbo and that's why i can only get little to no boost???

I have a 2001 Ford E350 van. My "Service Engine Soon" light came on as I was noticing some power loss and engine roughness. I pulled off the freeway within 3 to 5 minutes to find the remaining oil pooling underneath. the entire underside and back side of the van was coated. After getting the repair which included:

Oil pan Gasket - E350 Super Duty, Gas, V10 F7UZ 6710 AA
Thermostat - E350 Super Duty Diesel
Main Bearing Oil Seal/Rear Engine Cover plate -E 350 Super Duty Diesel - Rear F4TZ 6701 A
Then, of course Oil & Filter

After driving it home after the repair I noticed that at near 50 to 55 MPH there is a little subtle roughness that I'm not accustomed to. I also noticed that same subtle roughness the day BEFORE these seals went out. Maybe I'm just paranoid but is there something I should know about before I go on a long trip tomorrow?
