Is there anyway to do a diagnostics check on a 1988 honda accord lx? My check engine light is on but the car seems to be running o.k.

You will need to go to a reputable mechanic with the proper tools to do a diagnostic scan. WIth the multiple sensors and systems on engines today, that is the only way you are going to be able to find out what the problem is.

If you can not find any suitable automotive scanner even in Honda dealer, please try to detached the negative battery terminal (all electrical system off ) for about 15-20 seconds and re-fix after the given time. You must change the quality of the gasoline you are using with higher octane as the fault must be from the oxygen sensor only.
