i have set the TVS Lucas Distributor D23 with about 8 deg static advance. the tail pipe has black soot which was not there earlier with almost the same advance and similar carburettor setting and tappet setting.please advise.
also, the premier padmini manual talks about different values for runnig tappet clearance and tappet clerance for valve timing. please explain, how to set these valuesas the values mentioned for these two are from 0.1mm and 0.37mm. how to set and check the latter value?normally we find that the tappet cover is taken out and tappet clearances are set to about 0.1mm in static condition.is this the right way?
is always droplets through tail pipe during the first few kms run in normal/cool weather an indication of optimum tuning?

I have a 2007 Honda Civic LX. A couple of days back, I noticed that if I step on the brake pedal after parking the car, I hear a clicking sound. The sound seems to be coming from somewhere near the hand gear. I don't hear this when it is out of the parking gear, or if the car is off. What could be causing this? Is this normal?

My friend has white 2006 mustang gt. It is in excellent condition. The other day after being parked at the gym he noticed that there was a little bit of red paint on his bumper. There is no damage to the bumper at all, no scratches either. Just looks like someone bumped up against it and left some of their paint. My question is what is the best way to remove it without damaging his paint.

I have a Ford Focus and the rear view mirror fell off the the arm were it was attached to. The back part of the mirror has a socket and the tip of the arm has a ball. I have tried very hard to push the socket back on to the ball without any luck. The ball and the socket are dry. The mirror was hard to move and my wife pulled a little bit too hard. If I lubricate both parts and I'm able to remount the mirror will it be too loose? Do I need to replace the whole assembly?

I need to turn my headlights off while approaching gates at military base manned by ARMED gards. They don't like to be blinded by headlights. Makes people nervous.

My car worked fine last night. Today it made a wierd noise (the warning beeps when I put in the key were sputtering) then stopped. Now nothing. No lights (and my lights were not left on last night) nothing when I turn the key. So I had my friend jump it and still nothing. The battery and alternator were both relpaced about 2 years ago, they should be fine. Battery has not been dying or anything. I need my car!!!

My car's a Peugeot 206. My brother-in-law says that the fuses are fine. I cannot think of a reason why both bulbs would stop working at the same time.

Can I mix 93 octane and 87 octane gas to make 90? Or are there other differences between the two as well besides just the octane rating?

I passed my Driver's Ed stuff and I'll get my permit in January, but if I don't get a car for myself, I'll have to drive my mom's Yukon, which to me is too big. Is buying a smaller car better for me than driving her Yukon. (And you have to remember, if I get a car, my mom has to put me on her insurance)
