It seems I am having a lot of problems with taxes today! My husband's grandfather passed away and left an inheritance to the family. In November of 2006, the lawyer or accountant of the estate sent out the Schedule K-1's (Form 1041) for the 2005 tax year. Of course, we have already filed our 2005 taxes. Do we need to amend them? Or is this filed differently (like with 2006's return)? My brother-in-law took his papers to his accountant, but he couldn't tell me what the accountant did and he's too lazy to find out. All he could tell me is that he owes about $1000 and it's not due until April 15. BUT... the person handling the estate told my father-in-law all we'd each owe is about $300, so I'm wondering if my brother-in-law's accountant even filed his correctly. And does anyone recommend a tax preparer, independent or corporation? We live in Orange County, CA.

I did my sister a favor and agreed to babysit her two children for 2 wks @ $150/wk. She kept extending it, so I ended up doing 4.5 weeks (23 days) for a total of $680. Now she wants to claim the money for the childcare credit, which means I have to claim it as income (I did have a regular job also). This was NEVER mentioned before or after I started. I would never have agreed to $150/wk, knowing I'd have to pay taxes on it. After gas and tolls, my actual income was $75/wk. My husband and I are only due back $477 this year, fed + state combined. After adding the $680 "income", it will take away about $140 of our refund! And when all is said and done, I will only have made about 90 CENTS an hr for the babysitting! My sister does not even care. Do I have any legal recourse for her changing our agreement? How/where do I file this "income" on my taxes? Can I get a deduction for the gas, etc? Should I just forget it & file a 1040, rather than paying a tax preparer, which costs us more money?

I was filling out my taxes tonight when I was ready to mail but realized the address on my W2's did not match the address the tax form was mailed to. I have lived in westmoreland county with my parents for 11 years now
I bought a house in allegheny county on December 20th, 2006 (closing date). I still do not live in this new house because I am having a baby soon and plan to move there after my maternity leave is up around the end of may 2007. I changed my address with my place of employment though and my north versailles address is on my W2 form even though i did not even buy the house until December 20th of 2006. At the top of the berkheimer form it asks about address but i was going to leave it blank because I am still not even living there yet and it is 2007 (and it says dates residing at each address). Should I fill out the address change during tax period at the top or leave blank? Local tax is 3% in one and 1% in the other county/township. Thanks

Once a married couple files jointly, can they file seperately the next year if it would be of better financial interest to them? Also, suggestions for good tax programs that are low cost and will allow us to play with options that might increase our tax return below filing officially?

1. My daughter is 16 goes to school and works PT. I can still claim her right? She claimed 0 dependents on her W2. In the summer she wanted to work FT. Can I still claim her? What do I do with her W2 ? Do I have to report it also?

2. If I am married and worked PT and only made $4,500.00 on my W2 and we are filing joint do I have to report my income. I thought under a certain amount you don't have to claim? I am not sure since I'm married...

Thanks for you input.............

Hi, this is to give you brief outline of the situation that one of my friend is in. He has filed his returns online on some xyz website and the status of all that is "Rejected" right now. Now what I am expecting is that whether he could use some other company let's say ABC to see if it goes through or he couldn't since it goes to IRS in the end. This is really urgent matter. Response is highly appreciated.

Im' taking care of taxes for a friend. He currently works in Los Angeles but did work in Seattle for a few months last year. While entering his W2 online via TurboTax, I was told that Washington does not pay taxes therefore I did not need to file his W2. However looking at his wages, I do see that taxes were taken out. So, do I file his W2 from Seattle or not?
