Having a sales tax on all purchased goods would be a fair way to collect taxes for the government. Say, maybe 15% on all purchases. Then do away with the IRS!

I was expecting to get about 2500 back in earned income credit, but they are saying i owe 300. I only made 23,500 and I had 8000 in expenses. I didn't pay in my medicare or ss through the year, but the other contractors say that they still always get a big refund as long as they don't make over 45000. Is H&R block screwing something up? Or should I just take it like a man....

I hold the driver's liscense from NJ. So, my primary address is NJ's address. But, I worked through out the year in CT and lived in CT. May be technically, my address should be NJ (doubt). But I don't have any NJ state withholding. It seems there is no standing to file NJ tax return. My question is do I have to file tax return to both CT and NJ? If yes, is there any ways to avoid filing NJ tax return?
I am in F-1 status and working on CPT.

Someone has been using my child on their taxes for the past few years. I have contacted the IRS have been placed on hold and transferred so many times and for two years now and I getting restless. I have not received a response or the “letter” that was suppose to be sent to me on four different occasions. I still have in an envelope all the info that the IRS needs to confirm that this is my child that I have been taking care of for 10years now and I was told to wait for this “letter” to come before I send in this information. Is there anyone that knows the correct steps to take to get this resolved?

I was unable to work last year, due to lupus. I am a single mom who has lived on child support and food stamps for the past two years.

Someone told me that even if you did not work last year, that there is still a form you can fill out and get money back on taxes. I suppose they were talking about the earned income credit.

Is this true? Please answer...cause I am soooo broke.

Thank you!!!
