I e-filed my return on January 31st using H&R Block TaxCut. I was given a confirmation e-mail saying my return was accepted. I chose direct deposit. It has now been two weeks. I tried using the "Where's My Refund" option on the IRS website and all I get is:

We are sorry, we cannot provide any information about your refund.

It can take up to 3 weeks to process your return. Please wait at least one week before you log-on again to check the status of your refund.

Is something wrong? Last year I e-filed and got my refund within a week. This year I'm not even getting an approximate date on when I will get it. Please help.

I'm recently single after 14 years of marriage and taxes are now taking HALF of my paycheck each week, totaling a little over $600. It's KILLING me and I'm afraid I may have to move out of NYC within the next couple of months because I simply can't afford these taxes anymore. I don't have small kids and I can't deduct ANYTHING and I don't qualify for the slightest credits, but a neighbor, who makes about 30k per year constantly gets between 3-5k in returns each year where I'm lucky if I get $80 bucks after having paid well over 15k in taxes. What's wrong with this country?

Ok, my husband is in the ARmy. We are stationed in OK but he claims CA as his legal residence. California DOES NOT tax military income if you are stationed out of state. Well somehow the Army screwed up and charged state tax on his bonus. It ended up being about $900 taken out of his check. He asked some finance lady today if there was anything they could do to get that money back but she said he would just have to wait until next year and file state taxes to get it back. Well, I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that if there is a mistake made calculating your taxes there should be a way to get them back besides waiting a whole year! This finance department isn't known for its customer service so I'm thinking maybe she just told him that because she didn't want to be bothered trying to figure it out know what I mean?Anyways, if anyone knows if it can be gotten back in any way instead of waiting until next year I'd appreciate any advice. $900 is a lot of money to have to wait on :(

Two years ago, I started a consultation business but in 2006 I had to close it down since it did not work out.
I took a big loss, since I had spent a lot of money to start it and keep it going for two years.
Can I claim this loss in my 2006 tax returns?
Thanks

My gf has reecived her sole small income on a 1099-MIsc form for 2006 - less than $20k. She obviously is going to have to pay taxes on it and will wind up owing money. She was a full time student last year and is full time student this year and actually does not even work anymore - she just lives off of school loans. Can the IRS collect money off someone who is a full time student, unemployed and living off government loans?

I purchased a truck for my business and paid 1400.00 in sales tax. I use the truck 100% for business. What I was wondering is can I take the sales tax off of my income tax or is it included in the depreciation. Also I didnt keep a record of mileage for the year. Does that make any differance.

I really am clueless as to when my federal willbe coming even though the irs says 2/16. They have told me so may stories over the course of the last two weeks that I don't know what to believe.

I've been surfing the internet for weeks now, looking for investment oppurtunity for the little guy like me. I came accross IPB http://www.ipb-forex.com/index1.asp . the investment program sounds nice, and i've also trumble across someone who said he has investment in them for 2 years and his payment has been regular. They claim they invest in forex which is the trading currencies. My problem with them is, since they are a foreign company that operates out of their satelite branch in Chicago and Nevada, they don't report to IRS and neither do they provide 1099 for investors in the USA. How can i pay the fair taxes on whatever i make from this investment and also is it legal?
please review their website.
