No, personal purchases are not deductible, unless perhaps it was a business expense, or you are trying to write off your sales tax paid to the state (meaning of course you paid enough sales tax to be higher than the standard deduction)

Why should I pay for part of your bedroom set with my taxes?

Writing something off means that the government, which is really the taxpayers as far as their money, is paying for it.

No, you can't write it off. Why would you even think that you can?

Unless thats where you do your business, I'd rethink that notion. Nothing would send up a red flag quicker! You don't want to risk an audit.

Mark R, that is because while income from illegal activities are taxable as income, expenses related to illegal activities are not deductible as business expenses.

only if you are involved in prostitution, in which case you can deduct it as a business expense.
