My employer put 300 in an HSA and that is noted on the W-2 from work, but I got a separate one for the same amount from the bank that the money was stored in. I don't want to get charged with double "income" for this. When Turbo Tax checks for errors, this is one that it hits - it says my employer made excess contributions to my HSA. When I remove one of them, the refund amount goes up about $40. Can I just not report the one from the bank?

I was paid cash at my job last year and would like to file a tax return. Would I include the amount I earned in the wages line of the 1040? Since I don't have a W-2, will I have any problems? My former boss will not issue me a 1099 or W-2. How would I go about figuring the taxes I owe?

Ok so here's the deal. From Jan-Aug 06, I lived and interned in Washington DC. The W2 only shows Federal tax withheld. From Sept-Dec 06, I was back at home in Massachusetts for college. I worked at school but I didn't have federal or state taxes withheld.

So knowing this:
1. Do I have to file for state taxes in both DC and MA even though nothing was withheld (only Federal was withheld in DC)?

2. What is this Hope/Lifetime learning credit deal? I've read some stuff on this but I'm still confused.

Sorry, I'm a bit clueless on this tax stuff so bear with me. I figured I'd try it on my own first.

So like many people I have been having troubles finding out when I am going to get my refund. Origanally on www.irs.gov is said I should have my return by Feb 20th. Then yesterday, it was changed to Feb 27th.

I called the IRS this morning and at this point have been on the phone for an hour and a half. I got through to a man once - he said his ID informaiton and I didn't get all of it, and I asked him to repeat it and he said "Sorry Ma'am you should have gotten it the first time, how can I help you?" So I started telling him what I wanted to know and he cut me off and started asking me id questions - name amount of refund... and when he got to my filing date I didn't know off hand and when I asked him to hold on really quick while I grab my other paper he said "Ma'am I don't have time to wait for you". I mumbled something about that being rude, and he said "Ma'am if you think I am rude, you should call back in and talk to someone else". And then he hung up. Stupid mean IRS man.

Not sure how to or even if I have to "file" or claim these on the return. (I'm filing electronically and in Pa if that helps?)

First, we have a 1098 - Mortgage Interest Statement....I was able to post this on the return ok, then it asks for total prop tax pymts-which we have paid, but should we have gotten a "1099" type tax document stating the amt pd if we were to need this? Or do we just add it up from our receipts?

Secondly, we also received a 1099-C-Cancellation of Bad Debt. I can't seem to find any "for sure" direction on how to claim this or if I really even HAVE to. The only info I find states that "1099-Cs" should be claimed as "extra income" but that doesn't make any sense as the stipulations accompanying that info doens't coincide with the statement that we recvd...the only similar ref I can find is for "Bad Debt Forgiveness", which is NOT what we got ....

AAAGGGHHH
I know it sounds confusing and I apologize...
Can somebody PLEEEZ help me out???

Is intertstate commerce considered shipping by common carrier? If so, is a sale tax exempt if it is shipped from one state to another using a common carrier? The sales tax rules per state tend to not mention anything about common carriers in connection with interstate commerce. Example: located in Indiana, sell part, ship to California using FedEx.

I was told that my refund would be direct deposited in the bank account I picked by tomorrow. Will the money actually be available for me to use(withdrawal, transfer, etc.)? How long does direct deposit money usually take to be available? I've never done direct deposit before.

In 2005, I purchased a computer for my business. However, I’m looking over my 2005 return and there is no record of any one time or depreciated deduction for this expense. So, my question is two-fold:

1) Was this item deducted as an expense at all on my 2005 return and

2) If not, can I carry over this expense (for either a one time or depreciated deduction) on my 2006 return?

I am about to graduate college in 2 months and have a second interview for a job with the county. My starting pay (first 6 months) would be $14.66/hr. How much of that would be taken out for taxes?

I am married and we have no children. Would the tax be somewhere around 30%? I'm just curious. Thanks.
