Not true. No 1 knows anything about taxes so just slap them when they tell you anything about them ;)

You have the option of using "general sales tax", which would include your gas sales taxes if assessed in your state, or using state and local income taxes. Depending on the state you live in the general sales tax could be the better option but as you indicate you would have had to save all of your tax receipts and calculate the amount of tax paid or use a chart provided by the IRS.

The Tax on gas is an Excise Tax not a Sales Tax. It is NOT deductible on the Federal tax return.

No, individual taxpayers cannot get a refund of gasoline taxes.

Certain businesses may qualify for credits for highway tax paid motor fuels used for non-highway use.

Certain watercraft owners and users may qualify for rebates of certain federal fuels taxes paid on fuels used on waterways that are entirely maintained by the State, i.e. that receive no Federal support at all. Lake Winnipesaukee, NH is an example of one of those waterways. Fuel vendors on such waterways can provide information on claiming those rebates.

No, gasoline tax isn't a sales tax. Its a tax on the commodity itself not the sale.
