if you did not receive any income then most likely you are not required to file a tax return. you would have 0 tax liability. even though you have deductions like real estate taxes, this would not be of any benefit unless you have tax liability. so no, you would not file a tax return just for your home.

If you had income from some other souce than a job, then you might have to file depending on how much it was and where it was from. But if you didn't have income, you wouldn't have anything to file on. You'd have income zero, then maybe some itemized deductions to subtract from that. The most that deductions can do is take your income to zero, not below, and it's already there.

If you're asking would you get something back, you wouldn't unless you had something withheld or paid estimated payments.

If you had income for any source, you should file a tax return. The money you used for paying the tax had to come from somewhere. Even if it's just savings, you must have earned interest or dividends on that -- in which case you would have to file a return to report that income.

If you paid taxes with money, thats income. ALL income must be reported. I dont know how your paying your taxes on your home without income from a job (unless you have piles of money saved, in which case u still owe taxes on the interest).

Go to irs.gov and get Publication 17 and read to see if you need to file.

It will depend on all the income you had (jobs, interest earned, capital gains recognized, business income, dividends received, etc.
