Im' taking care of taxes for a friend. He currently works in Los Angeles but did work in Seattle for a few months last year. While entering his W2 online via TurboTax, I was told that Washington does not pay taxes therefore I did not need to file his W2. However looking at his wages, I do see that taxes were taken out. So, do I file his W2 from Seattle or not?

Now that you are no longer in Seattle, what are you going to do with your umbrella and rain coat? Will you trade them in for a gas mask and handgun? (The survival kit for L.A. and vicinity.)

If on line 17 on his w-2 there are state taxes taken out then yes you will need to file a state return on just the income from that w-2. If there is no taxes on line 17 then the w-2 will only need to be included on his federal return.

You have to file all of his W-2s with the IRS regardless of where he worked. The only thing you don't need to file is Washington State taxes.
