My parents have a lot of assets so my EFC came back really high, like 27000 something. However, the mortgage on those assets are huge, and I was wondering if there was any way to tweak the numbers for a better EFC. What would ideal numbers be to get back a minimal EFC?

Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there are only a few days left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax.

The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the government to at least take any notice.

Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car t

I am a single professional who earned about $41K last year. I claim nothing on my W-4 and even have an additional $6.00 taken out of every paycheck. But when I punched in my figures to a reputable tax preparers' website, it says I am getting back $69! That's all! I don't think I made an error (1040 is pretty straight-forward). Am I just in a bad tax bracket or what?

I lived half of 2006 in Maine and half in Virginia. I used H&RBlock online to file my taxes; was able to file federal and VA state but when I got to Maine state it said that it "couldn't support a part-year resident state tax return."

If I efile my federal and VA taxes through HRBlock, then all I have to do is file my ME state taxes, correct? How can I file just ME state without filing my federal along with it? Is the 1040 form what I use for ME state taxes?

HELP!!

I recently noticed on my bill at a nice local chain restaurant that the tax was 10% of the bill. I questioned the waitress about it since the state rate is 6% & she didn't seem to know anything about it. She questioned management & the answer was that is is a luxury tax. What do you have to do to qualify to charge such a tax? Are there requirements, or can any restaurant charge it?

I have come upon some troubled times and apparently I'm going to owe the IRS quite a bit this year...

I was not prepared for this, nor do I want to spend the money I'm forcasting it will cost to make good with the IRS.

I think the only way I can combat this is to claim every deduction possible...I'm looking for clothing, furnature and travel receipts I can say were part of my job...I figure this will help get the figure down.

Only problem is, I don't have any receipts. I was asking friends and family, but nobody saved them.

Does anyone know of a good repository where I could purchase or have some receipts people aren't using?

I think this is the only way to get this tax fee down...
