In MI we pay our vehicle sales tax when we go to the Secretary of State (DMV office) and have the title and registration issued in the new owners name. They assess the sales tax then or the title and registration won't be transferred.

Have you registered the car yet? Most places, if you don't pay the tax when you purchase the car (from a dealer usually) you'd pay it when you transferred the title and registered it.

If you bought the car from a dealer, ask them. If you bought it from a private party, then it'll probably be on the paperwork when you go to register it in your name. It doesn't have anything to do with your financing.

You pay the sales tax when you get your tags. Just take your paperwork to the local License Office and they'll fix you right up.
